I got this idea from a BOM on the web. I didn't like the house block that they used so I found one that I did
here. I plan to make 12 blocks, one for each month, with different sky and trees and grass matching the months. For instance, the April block has a rainy sky and thin grass with a rabbit or two in the lawn. The July block will have fireworks in the sky and a flagpole instead of the tree.

The April block is finished and I have learned a lot to help me with the other 11 blocks. It has sixty seven pieces per block! My advice to anyone attempting it is to paper piece it and either use solids or non directional prints. If directional prints are used, cut very carefully and plan on wasting a LOT of fabric (which can be used in scrap quilts so it isn't really wasted). Press everything. Twice. Every single time a seam is sewn. Make peace with your seam ripper... it will be your best friend by the time this is over. Stay organized. Reduce distractions to an absolute minimum. Oh, and pray a lot because if you don't you'll be cursing a lot!
On the other hand, it's simply beautiful!

I finished the July block (on the 4th) and if you think matching stripes is bad, wait until you try to match fireworks! However, it is done and it is beautiful. Also, my mother's friend, LeRoy Hobbs, looked at the five blocks I had finished and pointed out that the only real way to quilt this block is going to be in-the-ditch outlining the houses and trees. He is so right and I hate quilting in the ditch! I promised myself that I would never ever make another quilt that required it after Luctor et Emergo... but this one does, I can't avoid it. With that in mind, I think I also need to 'seed-quilt' the raindrops in April and things like that.

Even though I have not finished the quilting, this is my entry for
Click the link to see everybody's awesome quilts! I would be gushing over every one but blogs don't like LJ comments... at least not on my computer... and it takes me 30 minutes to post any comment.

I've finished the May block and the August block quilting. I really do hate quilting in the ditch but this is not being terribly horrible and is going pretty fast.

anyone lived in a pretty how town
(with up so floating many bells down)
spring summer autumn winter
he sang his didn't he danced his did.
Women and men (both little and small)
cared for anyone not at all
they sowed their isn't they reaped their same
sun moon stars rain
children guessed (but only a few
and down they forgot as up they grew
autumn winter spring summer)
that noone loved him more by more
when by now and tree by leaf
she laughed his joy she cried his grief
bird by snow and stir by still
anyone's any was all to her
someones married their everyones
laughed their cryings and did their dance
(sleep wake hope and then)they
said their nevers they slept their dream
stars rain sun moon
(and only the snow can begin to explain
how children are apt to forget to remember
with up so floating many bells down)
one day anyone died i guess
(and noone stooped to kiss his face)
busy folk buried them side by side
little by little and was by was
all by all and deep by deep
and more by more they dream their sleep
noone and anyone earth by april
with by spirit and if by yes.
Women and men (both dong and ding)
summer autumn winter spring
reaped their sowing and went their came
sun moon stars rain
