LOL, when I did this post, https://kinwad.livejournal.com/394613.html, I wrote a Word doc with some of your examples (and many more, might I add) but never got around to posting it (and now I can't find it on my computer). But just to let you know, my dear Wren, you're preaching to the choir here. *g* Great post!

Thank you. I've had some health issues and am currently in recovery mode and pretty much prohibited from doing anything other than make an occasional cup of tea. The up-side is that I'm catching up on my reading. So I'm not at my best and bored and irritable and coming across all these just rubs me the wrong way.

Your post made me laugh. Especially the comment about the spelling of "Lindz". I remember those emails. I think I still have them on file somewhere. I used to save everything compulsively back in the day.

I did see Brian once as Brina.

And, as usual, the biggest blunders of all are  there, their, and they're.

Yes, the homonyms are always problematic. I know, personally, that sometimes it's as if my fingers are taking dictation and just pick the wrong one to type (your/ you're is my biggest downfall).

But because I know I do it, I'm extra vigilant on checking it (and my betas know I do it as well, so they keep a close look out for it).

I died laughing at this. I'll be the first to admit I'm far from perfect with grammar. Semi-colons, in particular, are the bane of my existence. However, I'm equally irritated by the types of simple mistakes you mentioned. I'd add 'passed' and 'past.' Also, authors that don't use enough dialogue tags and cause constant confusion over who's speaking.

I posted this long ago on my WP site - it might give you a laugh:

You were right, it did give me a laugh. It also reminded me of another pet peeve that I left off - people who type "could've" as "could of". I accept it when it's in speech text because people do make that error all the time, but when it's in narrative text it drives me mad.

It's a tough one, because there's no easy solution. And I suspect that it's like the homonyms (your/ you're, for instance) where, for me at least, my brain sometimes just picks the wrong one to type, apparently in the belief that if it sounds the same it will be okay.

Thank you. I'm recuperating from an op at the moment so I'm whiling away my time catching up on my QAF reading and I guess because I'm not at my best and brightest these little things are really bugging me.

Glad I'm not the only one.
