Okay, so here's the thing.

I've been reading some Good Omens fanfic on AOL and there are two things that are driving me absolutely nuts so I wanted to vent a little and also to ask - am I the only one that wants to shake these people till their teeth rattle and tell them to grow the fuck up?

Are all writers really so damned self-obsessed? )

personal, #venting

Ha! I thought it was a format mistake on a fic I tried to read recently! I couldn’t read more that half a chapter because it annoyed me so much. I struggle when the grammar sucks the obvious spelling is off!! There their there and don’t start me on apostrophe’s I am with you Wren 👍

I'm with gaedhal, but I can't bite my tongue... so rant ensues. I was glad you said something about how long the sentence was... because THAT was the first thing I thought about saying. (58 words in the sentence... with the next sentence starting with 'especially'....an adverb with no comma!) But I have to admit with the no capitalization, I doubt I could have read much of it ( ... )

Lol. Love this vent. I’m thinking the capital letter thing might just be laziness. After all, it does require that one extra keystroke. 🤷🏼‍♀️ There is one author that uses the word “Whilst” in every other sentence. I so want to send her a link to a thesaurus. I just find the word irritating at this point.

Oh, don't start me on word use.

One that constantly drives me crazy is people using "wearily" when they clearly mean "warily". I know it's not something spell check would pick up, but ...

I completely get it. Word choice makes all the difference.

I ran one of the first online fan fiction web sites back in the 90’s. I LOVE 💕 to read. I was that kid that stayed up all night with my flash light and my favorite book of the moment. So when I I found out people would write stories about characters I loved... I provided the digital library.

I beta’ed a lot of work. I found the most helpful thing to be introducing people to the thesaurus. For some reason it also help the writers I worked with to understand wearily/warily, their/there, affect/effect and of course to/too/two.

Spelling matters. Word choices matter. I keep finding interesting plots delivered so poorly I just can’t continue to read.

And right now I really need to escape into the world’s words can build. Thank you for creating some great worlds. And making them easy to read.
