In lieu of talking about shit I don't want to talk about, allow me to babble about Justified

Because I ♥ it, yes I do.

Not... incredibly deep ones, but somewhat thinky. I think. See, it occurred to me last season that Justified is not the show I expected it to be, but in a good way. At first it looked like it might fit into a certain subgenre of shows, where a "maverick" cop gets sent somewhere he doesn't want to be (and for Raylan, Kentucky totally qualifies) and proceeds to kick criminal butt and close uncloseable cases and generally show his fellow law enforcement officers How It's Done.

Justified is not that show. When Raylan went back to Harlan he joined an office full of marshals just as good as he is; in the first ep, when Boyd's men make their move and Art tells Raylan to go on because they've got this, they really do. (Competence kink, I has it!)

But Raylan still kind of fits that maverick mold, in that when the shit hits the fan, his first instinct is to go it alone. Sometimes his only instinct is to go it alone, and I think it's starting to cost him. And it isn't that he doesn't respect his fellow marshals and their abilities, but he holds everything so close to the vest that it doesn't even occur to him to reach out for their support.

And now they've kind of all had it with his shit. And I strongly suspect he's about to pay off something Winona said to him back in the first season: "You are the angriest man I've ever met."

(I have other thoughts, about Boyd and the Bennetts and why I think we might see Loretta again, but the show's almost on. Show!)
