I was very sad to hear of John Peel's death yesterday. He had such a love of life and music and is a great loss to the musical world. However much of a cliché it may seem to be, he is truly irreplaceable. He was responsible for breaking so many bands, including The Undertones, Captain Beefheart, Pink Floyd, Blur, Pulp, David Bowie, The Sex Pistols

I was sad to hear about it too, and very shocked. I think he really was important to a lot of people. He really was the best kind of DJ, he really cared about sharing good music with people who wouldn't hear it otherwise. You're right, it is a great loss to the musical world.

Yes, he had a real passion for music and was always on the look out to help good new (signed and unsigned) bands and get them known. He never stopped doing it, and I really don't think anyone else can do it in his place.
