((These both take place before the disbarment~))

Maya: *It's still early enough in the spring that it's cool during the dark hours in LA. It's early morning and the sun hasn't risen yet. Maya jogs out into the relatively quiet streets of the city with a duffel bag over her shoulder. She looks back* Nick! You're so slow!

Phoenix:I'm coming! *Phoenix huffs a little as he catches up to her--marveling that she's outrunning him with her bag and all.* What's the rush? What time does the train leave?

Maya: *she looks up at the clock on the station wall* Twenty minutes! But I want to have time to say GOODBYE!

Phoenix:Is it going to take that long? *He loosens his tie* Actually, we might need that long to find the right train...

Maya: *stops short* Look, Nick. I won't be able to come back for a while. *her face is serious* This has gotta be a serious goodbye.

Phoenix:Serious? *raises an eyebrow* I was going to bring Iris out to Kurain for a short visit before she goes back to her temple. That's only a month or two from now...

Maya: I dunno if that's a long time for an old fogey like you, but it's a while for me. *stomps forward to the stairs of the station* HUMOR ME! *she yells behind her*

Phoenix:Okay, okay. *Shaking his head, Phoenix follows* You wanna reinact some old movie goodbye? "Here's looking at you...?" "Hill of beans..."

Maya: Frankly, Nick, I don't give a darn about that. *sticks out her tongue*

Phoenix:*Grins* Maybe not today... Hey, there's the platform. *There aren't many people gathering for this particular train, so they're mostly alone at the side of the tracks. It's a very familiar setting by now*

Maya: *Maya walks out onto the platform and sets her duffel down. She looks out onto the tracks and sighs, her eyes half-lidded and nostalgic.*

Phoenix:We've had a few goodbyes here already. *Pats her shoulder*

Maya: Yeah. A couple! This one's kind of different, though.

Phoenix:*sighs* Don't talk like that, Maya. "He turns her to face him.* How many times do I have to tell you--we're still going to see plenty of each other.

Maya: I know, but... It's not the same. I don't think... *she reaches in and takes out the master's seal from where she has it kept. It's tied to the inside of her uniform* because of this, I probably won't be able to have your back in court when you need me.

Phoenix:You don't need to worry about that. *Phoenix touches the top of the seal* You've helped me enough, Maya. Just take care of yourself for a while.

Maya: *frowns* You're the one who needs taking care of!!

Phoenix:Yeah, yeah. *pats her shoulder again* I am a grown adult you know.

Maya: Sure, but so am I. And you're pretty hopeless without me.

Phoenix:*rolls eyes* Okay, I get it. I'm useless. I thought this was going to be a heartfelt goodbye!

Maya: Sorry. I'm upset. I want to help you in court. I really like it! *looks down, clasping the seal with both hands*

Phoenix:I know. And I like having you there. *Smiles encouragingly* You're welcome behind the bench any time, even if it's not as often as before.

Maya: Yeah. *nods, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand* All right. But hey, just because I'm not around, doesn't mean you can't take cases.

Phoenix:I kind of have to if I want to eat. I'll tell you all about them when I visit. *He wraps an arm around her shoulders.* When I visit soon.

Maya: *she hugs him back and then steps back* Okay. And I'm going to work twice as hard to become the master, because when I'm the master they can't stop me from taking time off to come hang out with you!

Phoenix:Sounds like a plan. *Phoenix glances to the platform clock, then the food vendors nearby* Looks like there's still time before it gets here. Can I treat you?

Maya: Only if there's a burger vendor. *serious look* I have to load up because there will be no burgers for me in Kurain.

Phoenix:Sliders good enough? They come in bulk. *Chuckling, he waves for her to follow him to the stand* I'll even through in some fries.

Maya: Yessss get me enough for the road. I think they're going to stick me into a cave to meditate the second I get back. *grimaces* They want me to fast.

Phoenix:*winces* Not sure how that helps, but you guys are the experts. *he pulls out his wallet and grabs a few bills*

Maya: Something about food poisoning the mind and hardship being the true path to blah blah blah... I don't know. *shrugs* I'd rather stand under a waterfall than in a cave, but this is next-level stuff.

Phoenix:I guess every profession has its challenges. *As they reach the vendor he pays for a few burgers for each of them, with fries and drink.* But then, when I fasted through college it was for lack of funds, not for enlightenment.

Maya:I'm not sure how much enlightening I can take.

Phoenix:You'll be fine. Just think about how great your nice warm bed will be at the end of it all. *They get their drinks first, and he hands Maya hers.*

Maya:*sips* True! Maybe there's some room in my head for some more wisdom, too. Stranger things have happened.

Phoenix:*chuckles* Much stranger. Maybe when you're back, some of that enlightenment will rub off on me, too.

Maya:If it hasn't already, I don't know that you've got much hope, Nick. *a doubtful look*

Phoenix:If anything's rubbed off on me, it's appetite, I guess. *gives his side a distasteful pinch*

Maya:You grew a second stomach for desserts too? *smiles joyfully* Thank goodness! I was thinking it might never happen....

Phoenix:Yeah... If I keep it up I might develop a third and a fourth...! *Their food comes up, and he carries it to a small table near the platform*

Maya:*follows* There's a trick to doing it without gaining weight.

Phoenix:Oh? And what's that? *pops a fry into his mouth*

Maya:I'll tell you when I figure it out! *snakes a fry from the tray*

Phoenix:*makes an unamused face* Maybe it's a good thing you're fasting after all. You want to be Kurain's most successful master, not it's biggest.

Maya:*punches his shoulder* Hey, I'm active! I haven't gained a drop of weight since you met me!

Phoenix:*laughs, rubbing his shoulder* Proof there are still miracles in the world, I guess.

Maya:I'll miracle you! *grabs the burger from the tray* I better get this in me before I waste away from my active lifestyle. *takes a bite*

Phoenix:Yes, eat up before they put you into cave hibernation. *smirks as he tries a burger of his own* I hope Pearl won't miss you too much while you're in there. How's she doing?

Maya:She seems... *swallows* She's all right. *tilts her head* She's never really talked about all that stuff from a couple months ago, but I think she needs a little time.

Phoenix:Yeah... I'm sure she'll open up eventually. She's been through a lot for someone her age.

Maya:Yeah... I hope she'll be OK.

Phoenix:*Is tempted to ask about Maya herself, but she seems to have enough on her plate at the moment.* She will be. She's got us. Right? *nudges her with his foot.*

Maya: *looks annoyed, since her mouth is full of food* Of course!!! *swallows* We'll make sure her little heart stays intact. FOR GREAT JUSTICE!!

Phoenix:*not sure what it has to do with justice, but at least she's in good spirits!* Yeah, for justice. *he chomps down the rest of his burger.* Think they'll let you take leftovers on the train?

Maya: What they don't know won't hurt them! *shakes her head* I think so, anyway. It came from the platform so how could they have a problem with it?

Phoenix:True. *He leaves most of his fries and nudges the sack towards her.* It ought to last you the whole ride, at least. Might want to make sure your elders don't see it, though. *winks*

Maya: What they don't know won't hurt me! *rolls up the top of the sack and stands up* The train should be here soon.

Phoenix:*stands with her* Want me to wait with you until it does?

Maya: Sure! Where else are you gonna go at this hour, anyway?

Phoenix:Uh...yeah, you got a point. *starts back toward the platform*

Maya: *Maya jogs up to the platform, putting the sack of food into her duffel* Well, I guess this is just about goodbye. *On cue, the train arrives. She turns to look at it and then back to him* Here's lookin at you, kid.

Phoenix:*smirks* We'll always have Paris. *scratches the back of his neck* Or, you know, the noodle stand down the street.

Maya: Oh yeah that stuff is great! We'll have to go there again when I come back. *she smiles and hesitates for a minute, then drops her bag and throws her arms around him*

Phoenix:*Oofs, and then smiles as he hugs her back. Figuring he's already said everything he needs to, he stays quiet.*

Maya: Take care of yourself, Nick. *lets him go and steps back, grabbing her bag* I'll see you soon! *jumps onto the train and waves*

Phoenix:*waves back* Tell Pearl I said hi!

Maya: I will! *the beep for the train's doors sound and she steps back into the car, but finds a window as soon as she can and waves at him through it in silence*

Phoenix:*Waits on the platform until the train pulls away, and he can no longer see her. Still smiling, he at last turns to leave the station.*

Justice:*Pokes around the grocery store with his mother, dutifully pulling down this and that at her direction* (cont)

Mrs. Justice: Be a love and go pick out some cereal?

Justice:*It's so -boring- winding up and down the isles with his mom- and the sooner they can leave the better.* Yeah, sure. *Shuffles away, hands in his pockets.*

Phoenix:*Phoenix too is wandering around the grocery store, picking up the essentials. At present he is comparing Cheerios to Happy-Os, trying to decide if it's worth the extra $1.29 to go generic. Deciding on the Happy-Os he turns to head out of the isle.*

Justice:*Rounds the corner, already planning on getting the good stuff now that the decision is actually in his hands- but instead comes to a grinding halt.* ....!!!

Phoenix:*He almost doesn't realize that there's a teenaged guy suddenly blocking his path, but catches himself before they collide.* Ah, sorry. Didn't see ya. *Smiles politely and starts past*

Justice:*Stands there with a dumb look on his face, as Phoenix steps around him.* W-... Wait! Y... You're..! *spins around, nearly tripping over his feet in his haste*

Phoenix:*Turns back, confused* Yeah? Did I drop something? *Looks over his basket to be sure*

Justice:Oh, no, uh, I just- *Hastily fixes his hair,* I-I uh... Oh man. You're just- *Reddens slightly, obviously flustered* I don't mean to bother you but-- heh, y-you must get this all the time but could I-... could-I-get-your-autograph? *exhales in a rush*

Phoenix:My...what? *Phoenix glances behind him to make sure Apollo isn't talking to someone else.* Um, who do you think I am?

Justice:*Blanches* You're... Phoenix Wright? Uh... Right...?

Phoenix:Oh...yeah, I am. *scratches the back of his neck, still a little confused* Do I know you?

Justice:N-No, *quickly* I uh- I'm just going to be studying law and, well, I kind of already do in a way? And you're- *rakes his fingers back through his hair* A-Ahaha... this is not how I was hoping for this to go...

Phoenix:*Slowly it dawns on Phoenix what is going on, and he straightens up, feeling a little dumb and flustered himself.* Oh! You're a future lawyer, huh? That's great!

Justice:*His face splits into a wide grin* R-Really? Oh, well, y-yeah, thanks! I just, uh, really look up to you- er, well, I mean I follow your cases, and it's just... really cool, you know?

Phoenix:You do? Really? Wow, that's... *laughs* I had no idea I had fans. Well, one fan. *shifts his basket to his other arm so he can offer his hand.* What's your name?

Justice:*Eagerly,* Apollo Justice, sir. Haha, man, this is nuts... There's just so much stuff I want to ask you!

Phoenix:Did you say...Justice? *chuckles* Wow, that's quite a name you're sporting. No wonder you're going into law. But hey, can we...walk and talk? *Smiles sheepishly* There's still some stuff I have to get and my arm is getting tired.

Justice:Oh, yeah, sure. *He's positively beaming by then- the cereal could wait. And uh... maybe his mom too* So, do you have anything lined up? I've only been to a public trial once- I thought it was still pretty intense though. *He babbles, fixing his hair yet again*

Phoenix:Well uh...we defense attorney's don't exactly get things "lined up." *chuckles* Not me, anyway. It just depends on who walks through the door, you know? *he heads for the soap isle* Who was trying the case you saw?

Justice:*Blanches, wincing* ... Uh... d-dang. I don't... really remember the judge's name... *Mumbles,* But uh... the prosecution, you'd know for sure- it was Mr. Edgeworth. I actually got to question him beforehand- it was... pretty interesting!

Phoenix:Oh really? He wasn't a jerk or anything, was he? *laughs to himself as he picks out some soap then heads for the hair products* He's not always kind to rookie defense attorneys.

Justice:Well... *Pauses, frowning* Yeah. He kind of was at first. I knocked into him in a hallway and for a moment I thought he was going to rat me out to my teacher... *None too discretely watches for what kind of gel the man goes for*

Phoenix:*Grabs a blue bottle of Super Hard styling gel and drops it in his basket* Yeah, that sounds like Edgeworth all right. *gets a devious glint in his eye* Did he tell you we used to go to school together?

Justice:S-Seriously..? Ha! Oh whoa, I never would have guessed! That's so cool. *He grins* ... Come to think of it, I asked him if he knew you outside of the courthouse and he didn't answer... at all. Haha, that's nuts...

Phoenix:Didn't answer? Damn, that's cold! *laughs* We were best friends! Technically I'm his lawyer, since I did defend him that one time. *wags his finger at Apollo* That's a lesson for you--never trust a prosecutor.

Justice:*Eyes widen, as he nods enthusiastically* Jeez... I never would have guessed...!

Justice: *Before he can manage anymore questioning though, his phone begins to buzz in his pocket, and Apollo flinches.* Crap, uh... *Digs it out of his pocket, grimacing at his mother's number on screen before silencing it*

Justice:S-Sorry 'bout that. I- kind of gotta go. But... uh, do you think I could maybe go by your office sometime? There's still a bunch I really want to talk about- if, that'd uh be cool?

Phoenix:Oh yeah, sure. I'm there every day, unless I'm in court. *Fairly beems--he's never had a fan before!* Nice meeting you, Justice.

Justice:*He grins, and stands akwardly for a moment unsure if he should try for a handshake or what- but settles on giving a small wave before backing away* Awesome, and um, you too, sir! Later ah, then..!

Phoenix:*tries to wave back, but his basket shifts and he has to make a quick grab for it.* Seeya! *Embarrassed, he hurries on with his shopping.*

Justice:*Apollo skitters back through the isles quickly, finding a rather irritable looking mother back in the cereal isle. Even as she starts in on him though, he still doesn't manage to wipe a dorky smile from his face.*
