Title: Sneaking
Author: akinaj
Pairing: Spike/Xander, of course
Rating : only PG

Warning: Unbetaed, so if you find anything, let me know!

Xander was being sneaky about something, Spike was sure of that. He didn't know about what, he simply knew that Xander was sneaking off somehow to do something secret and possibly even naughty without him.

Worse still, Xander was good at it. If Spike hadn't heard an off-side remark from Dawn about "did you get it yet" with no further hint or explanation, and Xander's subsequent blush, Spike would never have suspected anything.

As it was, Xander had shot Dawn a pointed look, obviously reminding her of vamp hearing, and Spike hadn't caught so much as a second of unusual behaviour from Xander ever since.

So Spike had tried some sneaking of his own; he had carefully checked through every corner of Xander's (and his) basement lodgings, kept track of his comings and goings, even checked that he actually was at work when he claimed to be.

Nothing.

Not a single thing out of normal.

When he wasn't at work, Xander never went farther from Spike than the next room, and there was nothing whatsoever hidden in the basement.

Well, apart from Spike and his stash of bagged blood, but that didn't count because everyone except Xander's parents knew about that.

So Spike decided to try a different angle. If Xander himself didn't give anything away, then maybe it was time to see what he could get out of Dawn.

After a week of trying every possible approach he could think of - including an evening of horror movies and as much snack food as she could possibly eat, and a 'girly' afternoon where he permitted her to paint his finger and toe nails silver - with no results whatsoever, Spike was at his wits end and ready to admit that either Xander was better at sneaking and had Dawn's loyalty, or there wasn't anything to be found out in the first place.

And that was when Xander dropped the bomb on him.

Literally, even.

For the first thing that greeted him when he entered the dank basement that night was a water bomb, launched straight at his face by a laughing Xander; followed immediately by a second that hit him squarely on the chest, this one thrown by a giggling Dawn.

Sputtering and cursing, Spike tried to wipe the water out of his eyes when he was suddenly hugged on both sides and dragged around the basement in a wild and stumbling and giggling group hug dance.

It took at least five minutes until his attackers finally calmed down and pulled him down onto the old ratty couch, that was now also very wet. Incidentally, it was also the only piece of furniture left in the room, as Spike discovered when the world finally stopped spinning.

A look into the beaming faces on either side of him had him grinning right back.

"Moving out, pet?" he asked casually.

Xander's face beamed even more, if that was possible.

"Yep. And guess who's moving in with me into my swank new apartment with Jacuzzi, floor heating and flat-screen TV!" He bounced on the old couch, not caring that his pants were soaked through by now.

Spike's smile faltered, almost disappearing completely before he managed to force it back to the surface. So this was why they had been sneaking around all past month.

"Congratulations, Dawn. Good to see you getting out of Buffy's supervision this early. I'm sure the two of you will have much fun together…" he trailed of miserably, his head lowering and his eyes fixed firmly on the floor in front of his feet.

Two hands thumping him on the head made him look up sharply.

Straight into Xander's gold-brown eyes that glittered with mischief and something else that Spike couldn't quite name.

"Silly vamp. Dawn's much too young to be moving in with an old single guy like me. The second bedroom - did I mention there are two bedrooms, and two bathrooms and a big new kitchen and the living room is amazing - anyways, the second bedroom is all sun-proof and made vampire-friendly by yours truly, so you better appreciate all the hard work and will you please move in with me Fangless?" His voice softened as he added, "I'd like you to."

Spike was speechless. He looked from one dark-haired beauty to the other, and when did I start to think of Xander as beautiful?, but it was the anticipation on both faces that was important and got to him.

"Of course I'm moving in! And you better have satellite to go with that TV, whelp!" he threatened lightly. His threat was entirely lost in the whoops and squeals as he was hugged to within an inch of his un-life.

And quietly he thought, If this is what I get when Xander's being sneaky, I sure don't mind. and started to imagine ways to get revenge. Now that they would be living in close quarters, there was nothing keeping him from going for the big one: Seduce Xander, that's what I'm gonna do. But neither of the humans saw his tiny evil smile.
