Title: You've Got My Face
Fandom: Dark Angel (wtf, I know.)
Pairing: Ben/X5-494 (Alec, okay?)
Notes: Typing X5-494 instead of a name is really annoying. But I think it helps if you consider the fact that this is Jensen x Jensen. Seriously. Weird. Now excuse me while I writing-hibernate for the next six months.

Puma DNA does wonders for the peripheral senses. )

alec, ben, dark angel, x5-494

I'm LOVING this Alec meets Ben meets Alec scenario. (It's no secret that I LOVE both Ben and Alec!) I love that it's all sorts of complicated: like looking inwards and seeing muddle and confusion. I still really enjoy your imagery and your vivid descriptions.

“You’ve got my face.” The other says, an odd hollow quality echoing in his voice that X5-494 doesn’t understand.

“No.” He retorts definitively, turning slowly on nimble feet. “You’ve got mine.”
I don't care what you say: I still love this part most of all.

I mostly love Alec, but I think I lack any sort of immunity against The Ackles' powers of characterization (and/or the lucky casting that he gets.)

And um, I loved your comment! thank you, wife!

I'm sort of a little bit speechless.

I had no trouble discerning between Ben and Alec. It flowed quite nicely.

I think what really got me was the way you captured Alec as a Manticore soldier. X5-494, as it were. Since that's not a side of them we've seen portrayed other than in flashbacks on occasion, it's not something fan fiction writers seem to truly get (I notice the soldiers still have much human compassion and emotion, like Max, almost forgetting not everyone escaped Manticore and learned the outside life) and that resonated with me.

I guess I wasn't speechless after all. This is truly outstanding.

Okay, I just re-read what I wrote and it totally didn't make sense. *sigh* It's fucking 6:45 in the morning.

When I said: (I notice the soldiers still have much human compassion and emotion...), I meant in most of this fandom's fanfiction. Which is not really the way Manticore soldiers should be characterized, IMO.

You managed to stay away from that, remembering until the end that X5-494 is not Alec yet. He struggles with the human emotions that you make sure to mention he's learned on the outside but has no idea how to apply to himself. That is very impressive.

Unlike this review.

*facepalm*

Oh, I adore you for this comment! (or rather, two comments.)

First off, thank you so much. Thank you even more for leaving a comment at 6:45 am - as a general rule, I'm not so sweet at that time, but I'm glad that you are.

I haven't actually read anything in the Dark Angel fandom (other than Logan/Alec, but I've been horribly spoiled by Supernatural and I've had trouble finding really, really good stuff), so I was definitely lacking in some of the tricks of the trade (in hindsight, I really could have called him '494' rather than 'X5-494' every time), and as such your praise was worth that much more to me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the amazing review, and did I mention thank you?

Well basically - yes to everything 'tinamishi' said. I also appreciate seeing the "true sloiders" aspects brought out, especially when the setting is inside Manticore. While I like the nice little candy fics, lets face it. They are "Genetically Enhanced KILLING MACHINES".

Thanks for helping that point along. :-)

Thank you for reading and leaving such a nice comment! I almost wish that I had gotten grittier with them, but I don't even know where I'd start if this had been from Ben's POV. That would be incredibly interesting, though - he's the epitome of a killing machine.

Ah, yes. Crazy, pyschotic, Ben.

I'm actually thinking of doing some sorta fic that's set in T.C., after Max & Alec have gotten together, where Alec starts having these weird nightmares & this really bad feeling that something is gonna' happen, then some transgenics start getting 'mysteriously' killed & the end... 'shock'! Alec is Ben's split personality! dun. Dun. DUN! Sort of a "Secret Window" sorta' thing, if you've ever seen the movie.

What do you think? Think it might work?

Actually, that sounds like it could be really neat! If you do write it, make sure to let me know, okay? I'd love to read it!

He is a lion. This Ben is merely a house cat.

For once, the way that he feels physically and emotionally meet. For once, he feels whole in his emptiness.

Those are my favorite lines. This was goooood. When Ben kissed him.... I was like "OMG!"
