Narrative medicine. It's an emerging field at the intersection of clinical practice, literature, philosophy, sociology, and patient advocacy.
Thanks, Kellen. These people aren't haters, exactly -- they are my friends and classmates -- but I do wish they understood where I'm coming from on this.
oh wow, interesting. if you'd be willing, i'd love to read something about the field that goes into just a touch more detail than you've given here :) got an article you could send to me or something?
and i certainly didn't mean to imply anything disparaging against your classmates, just that others aren't always able to see what resonates with you (or me, or anyone) personally, and to not let their lack of understanding keep you from doing something that you know is the right decision for you.
Hey Sneha :) Long time no see. Strangely enough, I am also poking my head around LJ spontaneously. Anyway, as someone who knew you over a decade ago (whaa) I think I can safely say that you and this field were probably meant to be. All the best with the peer-snideness. 3AM's a hard time to be optimistic, but I hope you don't let it get to you for too long! And speaking of fields that encounter a lot of skepticism, Chris is studying music theory as it applies in video games. You aren't alone in blazing through new/unusual fields of study, and if anyone can do it successfully it's you and Chris!
PS: I'll be working in NYC next summer. Let's have coffee together and catch up!
