Can't make pancakes. Can't be anybody's housewife

Apr 08, 2010 19:55

It wasn't my first attempt to make pancakes last 6th of April. I remember making pancakes by myself two years ago and they turned out to be slightly-better-than-average (proudest moment of my life). I just followed the detailed instructions on the box and it was a piece of pancake. So, two nights ago, I was craving for butter and sugar and I was ( Read more... )

personal: shit nobody cares about, ramblings: home life, caution: a blundering imbecile, emotion: whack, caution: taste like cherry whiskey

Cooking is such a tricky thing. Like, I can cook really delicious chicken and plenty of other things, but I can't cook scrambled eggs. *sigh*

You're not an idiot for not knowing how to do pancakes - it's not exactly some innate ability or something. |D

It's just a bit unnerving, that's all :p

I'm a self-thought expert in frying things. LOL, you can't do scrambled eggs? Why not? I can't make good sunny side-ups; you know, when you find a way not to cook the yellow part inside, making it liquid-y :)

You don't understand: I burn the eggs I can make just about anything else, but for some reason, fucking EGGS are the bane of my existence. . I... I can't make them worth shit ;A;

Really? All kinds of eggs? So I take it you can't make omelet?

Hahaha...I think the hardest thing for me to cook is anything that is not ready-to-cook, you know, something I have to make myself. I'm gonna stick to frying hotdogs and shit.

Cooking is one of those things that you have to learn as you go. I can't cook very many things, but I'm slowly beginning to learn how. The first time I made cookies they were terrible. The only person who liked them is my little brother, and he was at the stage where he liked anything with sugar in it. Once I tried a few more times, they actually started coming out good. You might not be good at it now, but it's not like it's something you can never learn.

One thing I would advise you is, always follow the directions as precisely as you can, unless you are an accomplished enough cook to experiment, or if someone who can cook tells you to do otherwise. Like with the pancakes, if they don't mention eggs, don't add eggs.

Anyway, good luck! ♥ I'm sure you'll figure it out one day, and if not, there are other ways to obtain food, just not ways which are quite as healthy or inexpensive.

But there were supposed to be eggs in pancakes after all! >.< It was at the back of my head and yet I didn't follow that instinct. But then again that's what happens when I deprive myself of sleep and had weird food cravings at 4 am XD

Thanks for the advise, Nana-san. And the encouragement. You're right. I LOVE to eat, ERGO I need to LEARN HOW TO COOK. :)

Oh my, don't I know how cooking!fail feels ;.; *hugs you* Out of all the things to make me feel like an idiot on a regular basis, cooking is a truly worthy follow-up to driving. XD; Over the semester break I've gotten slightly better because I've been cooking with my mother a lot; but me + kitchen = usually ends in disasters anyway. Really, you'll get better with practice--sure, you'll encounter a lot of difficulties along the way, but in my own experience, cooking is something that you just need to try, sometimes. And it's not like this pancake incident didn't have any good sides, is it? You've learned something, at least, even if you also didn't get to eat pancakes! ♥

I'll tell you a wee story that'll probably make you feel better: back when I first started to try my hand at cooking, I once managed to set the oven on fire. I was trying to warm up a previously-frozen dinner, but hadn't thought of taking the wrapping off first... so in the end, the oven was (a) on fire and (b) full of melted plastic. |D;;; Trust me, you will get ( ... )

Hahaha...that actually did make me LOLed, your story! I am thankful that I haven't (yet) set anything on fire! I do tend to overcook or undercook stuff, though. Still, I'm happy to say that I pretty much know my way around bacon, hotdogs, eggs and chicken nuggets!~

That reminds me: I wanna learn how to drive too since I'm turning twenty! And most of my high school friends knew how to drive at fifteen and that makes me kindda envious :) Although, since most of my symbolic dreams involve driving (interpretation: 'steering/having control on own life'), I've developed a slight anxiety towards it XD

You're actually lucky. :|

I can't even cook my own pancakes; my dad always has to be there to flip them for me. I don't get to go to the kitchen so often, so I'm not exactly top chef with these things. Whenever I cook hotdogs, one side of them always turns black (but hey, I like them crispy). Make me do a sunny side up? The yellow part will just scatter all over and will mess the whole thing up. This is exactly why instant noodles are my friends.

But don't feel stupid just because of some pancake! Some people are great with the kitchen, some aren't. Practice makes perfect! ♥

Why does everyone keep telling me this? :) I wasn't being a drama queen on being a lousy cook...I was actually just poking fun of myself! XD Anways, yeah, cooking anything that is not fried sucks ass for me but I WILL GET FED no matter what it takes :p

If we do get to be a couple in RL, sweetie, I will cook for you---of course, you have to bear with me until I get it right <3

I have no problems with that! Though, I would also, one day, cook for you something that is not instant. ♥
