Update on how to catch a thief

So, I posted on our company's intranet site that I'm looking for a motion sensing camera and why.  Two people actually emailed me to say their parents have hunting cameras that would work for this purpose, but they aren't going home until Thanksgiving.  So I could borrow one of those then.  But then someone left a comment that it was at least worth

I wish you could make some sort of hot sauce (mild) explosive. Maybe a hot sauce aerosol bomb.
Ask the tech dudes! I am sure they can rig it.

My immediate mental association is the phrase "caught red-handed", but I don't know how you could potentially use that. Box up a picture or some representation of red hands? Hand prints? I'm not good at stuff like this.

Poop that shoots out the box when it's opened. Or dye, like the kind that's in those clothing sensors. Or a box with a tracking device so you see where it goes?
