I really wish there was a way to do an advanced friends only entry. going through my list i probably only would want about a handful of you to know what is really going on in my life.

It's quite easy really. You can designate different friend's groups to read your posts. Just go to manage, then friends, then edit custom friends group. From there, you can make a new group and select who all's in it, and then make your protected entries apply only to them by selecting them in the drop down menu on your update journal screen. Of course, anyone can see when you make a protected entry by checking your calendar and then seeing if there was a post they couldn't see, thereby giving them reason to distrust you.
