Did a little trial run for NaNoWriMo this evening. Once dinner was over, I set my timer for 30 minutes just to see what I could accomplish in that short time frame. Even with my compulsive use of the backspace key and some arguing with autocorrect (I may need to disable that for the month), I came up with 750 words. It's a good starting place. The more word sprints you do, the easier it will be. The trick I learned is to shush my inner editor and write as much as I could without much regard to punctuation or having everything fit. It's hard, but you can do it! ~cheers you on~

Writing fanfic was my big breakthrough where the inner editor was concerned. Mine was more like an Inner Committee of Spanish Inquisition Censors, a/k/a My Mother. It's a long, sordid story, but one of the central messages of my upbringing was "Don't tell anyone."

This has a chilling effect on the writing flow, you know? That inner voice that says "What will people think when they read this?"

It's a HUGE accomplishment to be able to sit down and pour forth 750 words. Hooray for you!

Yeah, I have that same thing. The novel I outlined during NaNo last year is in no way something I think people would buy, but I'm writing it for myself. I just need to keep reminding myself of that.
