Title: The Music Brings Us Together
Chapter: 15/?
Pairing: Adam/Kris
Rating: R (For later chapters)
Summary: The behind-the-scenes story that we never saw, as I imagine it, anyways.
Beta: Adamgrrrl
Disclamer: Unfortunately, I do not own Kris, Adam, or anyone else in this story. Nor do I own any of the songs, or anything recognizable from American Idol or Ford. I barely own the plotline, as its based on the show. Adam and Kris belong completely to themselves, and each other.

“She’s a freaking drill sergeant,” Matt complained quietly, falling onto the floor in front of the couch in the rehearsal room. Paula had finally let them take a break from the dance number, after a nonstop morning of out-of-date disco moves.

“I didn’t know she could be this tough,” Kris said, sinking onto the couch and leaning back. “She’s Paula! She doesn’t have a tough bone in her body.”

“Apparently she’s got a lot of them,” Danny added dryly from the other end of the couch.

“Aww, come on guys, it’s not that bad,” Adam said with a smile. He shrugged and looked around at the group. Yeah, he was tired, but Paula wasn’t too tough. Tougher than he expected, of course; like Kris said, she’s Paula! Who woulda thought?? She’s not supposed to be tough, but he was having a lot of fun learning the group number.

“Well, not all of us are naturals at this,” Matt said, cracking one eye open and glaring up at Adam. Adam just rolled his eyes but didn’t respond. They were only getting ten minutes before they started up again.

Three hours later, they were walking out of the rehearsal hall, muscles sore, and on their way to rehearsals with the band. Adam and Kris walked back to their room that night around nine, Adam keeping his eyes carefully on Kris who looked like he might hit the ground at the slightest provocation. “You really need to sleep,” Adam commented obviously.

Kris just shook his head defiantly, “No. I’m gonna take a shower, then practice that group number some more. We have to go back tomorrow and Paula expects it to be perfect.”

“Just don’t push yourself too hard,” Adam said seriously, then grinned, “I’ll be listening for a ‘thud’ when you pass out in the shower.”

“Oh yeah, you wish, Lambert,” Kris said, laughing. He turned and Adam was slightly surprised to see a smirk on his lips, only adding to the sexy gruff look that the five o’clock shadow gave the younger singer. “You just want to be the one to come in there and save me in all my "nekkid" glory, don’t you?”

Adam stood stock still for a moment, too shocked by Kris’ statement to say anything. After a moment he doubled over in laughter. “Did you just make a sexual joke? What happened to little, shy, innocent, church-boy Kris?”

“Got corrupted by a dark angel, I guess,” Kris said, laughing as he made his way to the bathroom.

Adam bit back the comment that popped into his head. Kris didn’t even know how much more that dark angel could corrupt him. Wanted to corrupt him. Shaking his head, Adam sat down on his bed and started taking off his jewelry. Adam carefully avoided taking note of Kris and his still-annoying habit of only wearing a towel around his waist after a shower, and took the bathroom for himself.

Half an hour later, Adam had a to cover his mouth, hard, as he walked back into the room to see Kris, his back to him and trying to practice the dance moves. A laugh, poorly disguised as a cough, escaped Adam after a moment and Kris whipped around, his face red. “Oh no! Please, don’t stop on my account,” Adam snickered, tilting his head to the side in amusement.

“Shut up,” Kris muttered, rolling his eyes. “I’ll never get this stupid group number down!”

“Sure you will,” Adam said optimistically. “It jus t takes practice.”

“Easy for you to say,” Kris said. “You’re a natural at this.”

“Then why not let the natural help you?” Adam suggested, walking towards him. “It’s really not too hard.”

An hour later they were still going at it, and not getting too far. “This is impossible!” Kris exclaimed in annoyance.

“No, it’s not,” Adam shot back, for what felt the millionth time. “Look, you step forward with this leg and just- no, no, just roll your hip a bit. No, like this.”

“Dang, man. I swear you have an extra joint in your hip or something,” Kris muttered, narrowing his eyes and poking Adam in the side.

Adam could only laugh at that. “I don’t, I promise.”

“You do! Normal guys just can’t make their leg move like that!”

“No, normal guys just don’t like to dance,” Adam laughed. “So normal guys don’t even try.”

“Aaaaauughh! I am trying! I can’t do it.”

Adam sighed, rolling his eyes hard. “Okay, how about we come back to that after we’ve warmed up a bit more."

“Warmed up?! We’ve been doing this for over an hour! How much more warmed up can we get?” Kris exclaimed in horror.

“Yeah, well it hasn’t done you much good,” Adam pointed out, then gestured for Kris to step a bit to the right. “Ok, let’s try this part near the end, instead.” He hit the CD player and fast forwarded to the place he wanted. He gestured for Kris to do that part of the choreography, then almost fell over laughing at Kris’ interpretation of the move.

“Dude? Will you stop laughing and help me?” Kris whined, sighing in defeat. Adam guessed that he had long since given up being embarrassed by Adam’s laughter at his so-called dance moves.

“Yeah yeah,” Adam said, still grinning, actually wiping his eyes a bit. “Your arms are straight down, and you just go down on one knee. No, no, don’t lean forward, your shoulders need to stay straight up.”

“Like this?” Kris asked, attempting it yet again.

“No, you’re still hunched over,” Adam said, rolling his eyes. He walked over and stood directly in front of Kris, putting a hand on each of his shoulders to keep him upright, “Now, try it again.”

Kris just raised his eyebrows at him and glanced down, “Um…”

Adam wanted to laugh when he caught on to what Kris was implying, but he just smirked instead. In a low voice, he said, “Kris, honey, if you don’t get your mind out of the gutter, the rest of you is gonna be there too.” His smirk widened as Kris tried to laugh and play it off, rolling his eyes, but a red tinge still made its way to his cheeks.

Unable to resist, Adam leaned forward and caught Kris’ lips in a quick kiss. He swiped his tongue across Kris’ lips, then pulled back before the younger man could. Kris raised his eyebrows curiously at him, but Adam just shrugged. “You’re just so cute when you’re embarrassed,” he explained, as though it were the most obvious thing in the world. Without waiting for a response, Adam stepped around to stand behind Kris and placed his hands on his shoulders again. “Feel better?” he asked teasingly.

Kris just shot a glare over his shoulder at Adam and waited for the cue in the music to hit before going down onto his knee. “Perfect!” Adam said brightly, taking a step back as Kris stood. “See? All you need is a good teacher and a little practice.”

“The best,” Kris said with that small smirk. Adam decided that he could definitely get used to seeing that. Adam closed the distance between them again, taking Kris’ face in his hands and pressing their lips together again. The kiss was longer this time, and Adam wondered if he would ever tire of the feeling of Kris’ hands tangling in his hair. No, probably not. They broke apart after a moment and Kris smiled. “Can we go over the second verse again?”

Adam just smiled and went back to the CD player, vaguely trying to remember why everyone else seemed to hate Paula’s choreography so much.
