I know the guy has the right to run...I'm not denying that. But for Christ's sake does he HAVE to go into every election where what we need more than ever is solidarity among dems to get the republicans out of office?! This is what he did with Gore and Kerry---siphoned off much ( Read more... )

Well, I disagree that he "ruined" things in past elections. Who's to say the people who voted for him would have voted for Gore, or Kerry, or at all? After all, his mantra is basically that there's no difference between Democrats and Republicans. And it was impossible to predict what would have happened in Florida. The man was just looking to get 5% of the popular vote. But still, even as of the last election, there's a definite sense that he's just being a jackass. He wants to change things, and disagrees with all the major candidates, but it looks selfish and stupid to keep running like this. He gets less and less everytime (I think he got 2-3% in 2000, about 1% last time). Even the Green Party felt he was being a jackass in 2004, and therefore failed to sponsor his candidacy.

I totally agree with his jackass-ery and that's what irks me most of all. I just can't understand WHY he willingly enters a race where he knows he has no chance of succeeding. It's like watching a 3-year old throwing a tantrum because no one is paying attention to him. I just think if he disagrees so violently against democrats and republicans there has to be a more constructive way for him to go about things than throwing his hat into the presidental ring.

Exactly. I supported him when he was working with the Green Party and had a (small) political machine behind him, but then he decided to break with them, basically because he couldn't get his way. It goes against what he supposedly believed in at the start.
