Most of the cast is impressive as hell, and the fact that Stone's on it gives it some hope, but the whole "hard charging rock guitar playing behind quick cuts from the film" trailer leaves a bad taste in mah mouf.

I seem to recall reading a review you wrote on "Lady in the Water" when it came out. I don't remember if it was on Forumopolis or here, but I'm thinking Forumpolis because I don't think I was reading your lj in 2006. I can't find it in the archives (they don't cover 2006), and I might be misremembering . . . but if you did indeed write a review, do you still have it? I wanted to talk to someone about the movie, and I wanted to bring up something I'm pretty sure I read from you.
Of course, I may be completely wrong; it might not have been you at all. But I thought it was worth a shot in asking.

Hi Anna!
I think it must have been someone else. I have never seen "Lady in the Water." I know a lot of people who have, and whose reviews were entertaining enough for me to avoid that movie at all costs. Words like hubris and delusional were thrown around. That was the film that caused the breakup of M. Night and his first studio love, Disney. Disney had some pretty major problems with the script, Night had a temper tantrum that amounted to "My first draft is solid gold, you don't understand me anymore!" And off he went to Warners.

*laugh* Okay, it definitely wasn't you then. (Chris was right--he was pretty sure I was thinking of another review we'd both read and talked about.) I guess I just naturally associate you with quality writing about movies. :)

But somehow, the trailer and cast has somehow sold it for me.

I'm not certain about how I feel about Oliver Stone being attached. The actors give some juice in the clips, but...
