Alvarez, Julia. In the Time of Butterflies
Heller, Joseph. Catch-22.
O'Connor, Flannery. Everything That Rises Must Converge

I've read others, but I would suggest these be near the top of your list. Yeah.

You definitely do NOT need to read The House on Mango Street. I'm not exaggerating when I say it is one of the five worst books I have read.

That's what I thought when I read it the first time. I was like...huh...this sucks. But I thought that maybe as I progressed in age, I would appriciate it more. But if you say it sucks, I'll forget it.

O'Connor, Flannery. Everything That Rises Must Converge

there are three reasons that Flannery O'Connor is one of my favorite authors:

1. she's an absolutely amazing writer
2. her descriptions are incredible
3. this book. everything that rises must converge is absolutely, the greatest collection of stories in the world.

also, if you haven't read it and want to read some really good hemingway, i think the old man and the sea is really good. farwell to arms i have read most of, but i can't really say much for.
