I don't know what it is about Shiritori that makes me want to write all these Tokyo Dollhouse things, but it does. This takes place a week or two after
this.
"Ever feel like you're being watched?" Tsukada asks the next time Totsuka brings a tray of dirty dishes over to be washed. Totsuka freezes for a second, worried that maybe his co-worker knows, but quickly realizes that Tsukada is just being Tsukada.
He chuckles lightly. "All the time," he jokes, but when he turns around, his gaze drifts to where a young man is quietly sipping tea in the corner. Their eyes meet for a brief second before the man goes back to his tea. He's not exactly sure why Fujigaya is here, but he really hopes it's not about Kitayama and that it's only coincidence that the head of the Tokyo Dollhouse is having afternoon tea at this particular cafe.
Totsuka knows he's not that lucky and when Fujigaya catches his eye again right at the end of his shift, all he can do is go in the back, gather his things and wait for Fujigaya outside.
They walk to Fujigaya's car in silence and it's not until they're both safely inside that Fujigaya opens his mouth. "You seem to be doing well."
Totsuka nods. "I am. You didn't have to come all the way out here to see that for yourself."
The car pulls onto the freeway. "I like seeing for myself how all our former actives are doing," Fujigaya says. "And I haven't seen you since the end of your contract. I was a bit tied up the day you came in."
"It wasn't a problem. Kitayama made sure I was okay," Totsuka says, testing for Fujigaya's reaction and sure enough, Fujigaya face ever so slightly turns into a grimace.
Neither of them say anymore until they've come to a complete stop. Fujigaya turns off the engine and gets out of the car. Totsuka follows suit and gazes out towards the open ocean in front of him.
"Is there a rule saying that I cannot pursue Kitayama?" he says, asking the question that's been nagging at him even though he's afraid of the answer. He keeps his eyes on the soft waves rolling up onto the beach, waiting.
"No," Fujigaya finally says, and to Totsuka's utter surprise, it's not the answer he'd been expecting.
"What?"
Fujigaya sighs. "The relationship itself would be frowned upon, but there's no rule saying that you cannot pursue a personal relationship with Kitayama. The problem would have been if Kitayama was the one initiating and pursuing you, but since there's no evidence of misconduct on his part and as long as he's careful to keep his work and private lives separate, I won't fire him.
HOWEVER," Fujigaya continues just as Totsuka lets out a sigh of relief. "Be aware that this means he cannot actively assist you in figuring out things that happened to you during your time with us."
"I see."
The drive from the beach to Totsuka's apartment is silent for the most part, but not unpleasant. He has a lot to think about and while he does take the time to acknowledge how much Fujigaya knows about what's been going on, his head is full of Kitayama.
He'd thought maybe his memory would come back on its own, but it's turning out to be a lot more difficult than anticipated, if not impossible, which means... "A fresh start," Totsuka murmurs. "We have the advantage of having already met, but it'll basically be like a fresh start."
A small smile forms on Fujigaya's face. "I have a feeling like you'll make the most of it."
You're up,
doctoggy :)
