With Kitayama in this year's Kabuki, there's a lot of roller skating happening...and some of the cast are better than others. Poor boys.
I feel like I started writing something that just leads to more fic, but I guess I do that a lot with Shiritori. Anyway, it was leading somewhere but I don't have time to write it so I cut it off and forced an ending. Sorry. :x
“Never ever doing this again,” Yabu wails from the floor. “I don’t want to die.”
“Except for the part where you’re gonna have to do this for every show and we’ve only started rehearsals. You’ll get the hang of it,” Kitayama assures him as he skates right over to give Yabu a hand up. Eyes a bit watery, Yabu takes it and lets himself get hauled up to his feet. “Besides… you could be doing worse.”
They both pause to watch the Snowmen trying to keep Sakuma upright. Kitayama chuckles, the sight almost endearing. “You’d think this was his first time on skates,” he murmurs before pushing off to deal with that mess.
Overall, Miyadate seems to be pretty steady on his feet, Watanabe as well, and while Iwamoto isn’t too bad either, he seems to be the least happy about the whole thing.
“He thought Dream Boys would be the end of it and he wouldn’t have to touch another pair of skates again,” Abe whispers when he catches Kitayama staring at Iwamoto’s expression questioningly.
The problem really lies with Fukasawa and Sakuma, especially Sakuma. Granted, they’ve only spent an hour or two on the skating section thus far, but with the way Sakuma finds himself in a heap on the ground every few seconds, you’d never know that the Snowmen actually went through lessons last year to prepare for Dream Boys, the roller skate teacher that time being present at multiple rehearsals.
For Kitayama, it’s been a long time since he last taught anyone how to skate and he’s enjoying it. He’s more patient with the Snowmen than he had been with Ft2 at the beginning, older now and less irritable when things don’t work the first few times. Enough time has past now that he can acknowledge things like that.
…Just like he can acknowledge that the Snowmen are a bit more honest about their efforts, openly thankful for advice given, and talk back a lot less than the younger members of his own group did way back when. Kitayama briefly glances at the clock and wonders if Nikaido is free for dinner.
The next time Sakuma starts flailing and is about to fall over, Kitayama swiftly skates over and reaches out to grab his arm to steady him. Sakuma looks over with a relieved smile. “Thanks!”
“You spent an entire month of shows on those things less than a year ago,” Kitayama scolds. “Did no one show you how to use your stopper?”
Sakuma’s smile only grows wider. “But I can! Look!”
He eyes Sakuma suspiciously as he hobbles towards an open space, then as Sakuma balances on his right stopper and lifts his left leg into the air. Sakuma barely manages a triumphant “Ta-da~!” before collapsing to his knees, unable to come out of his little trick standing.
Kitayama let’s out a tcht while he helps the younger boy up, but can’t help smiling. “What are we going to do with you?”
