Urgh I can't seem to think about anything other than Yamapi/Kitayama lately. ;; This is probably the ending (or part of it, whatever) of the KitaPi high school AU that I still don't have any plot for yet (which is why it's so weird v_v B/C I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON). Google-san tells me that the tradition of button-giving at graduation goes: 1st button goes to shinyuu, 2nd goes to crush/significant other, 3rd & 4th to friends.

"Button," demands Kitayama, holding out his hand expectantly.
Yamashita has been expecting this all throughout graduation, but he feigns surprise and blinks owlishly at Kitayama just to tease him. "What? What button?"
It's a game they're used to playing, goading each other into saying things straight out instead of only hinting at meanings hidden layers deep beneath their words. Yamashita would be stupid to not understand which uniform button of his Kitayama wants, but he certainly won't let the jerk have it without a little fun. And anyway, he wants to hear Kitayama say it.
"The one on your uniform," Kitayama says pointedly. But the corner of his lip twitches a little in amusement, and Yamashita knows he'll play the game.
"Eh? Which one? Why?"
"You might be good at opening your eyes really big and looking innocent," Kitayama snorts, "but you don't fool me. The first one, and because it's tradition to give your best buddy your uniform button."
"No way, I didn't save that one for you!"
"Ah, so you did save me one!" The thing is, Kitayama plays the game more mercilessly than Yamashita does, and not quite as fairly either. He likes turning the tables on Yamashita; and Yamashita, damn it all, never sees it coming. "Well, which one did you save for me then?"
The wide, happy grin spreading across Kitayama's face is infectious, and reconciles Yamashita to the fact that Kitayama's won this round. He's reaching up to pull off his second button when he suddenly pauses with his hand in the air.
"On second thought, why should I give you my button at all?" He sticks his tongue out at Kitayama. "You can come get it yourself."
Suddenly, Kitayama's smile turns sharp. "Oh," he says, "Oh, I will. Don't you worry about that."
