Hi, folks! How's the writing going this week? I am all over the place with story projects, and seem to be doing many things, none of them well. Hope it's going better for you ( Read more... )

I...can't write sex scenes. I'm a complete perv when it comes to what I read - like, seriously - but I always skim over them or have them start to have sex and then go to the next scene, because I'm terrified of screwing it up. Because most of the stuff I'm attempting to write I have completely no experience in, and...yeah. Eventually I'll work past that.

The remix is going...okay. I got fed up and started to write a completely different take of the same fic, but then was like, "Wait, I still like what I did before and don't want to throw it out!" So now I'm trying to combine them, kind of, but it means I have to write some more of the new one I started...ack. I keep avoiding sitting down to write it.

Haven't written anything this week. I managed to post a drabble today, but that was more a fortuitous find among "snippets I've written but haven't used yet," rather than any creative doing on my part.

So, yeah, my waterloo right now would be writing in general. I just can't seem to find a fic idea that gets me jazzed up and juiced to write it. (That's not to say I have no ideas - I just typed up a list, and I have fourteen ideas - just that none of them inspire me to write more.)

I used to hate dialog with a passion...writing fanfic has helped me improve there quite a bit, actually. When you know your characters and settings (and your readers know it as well as you), you can't get away with throwing in ten pages of cruddy exposition while you figure out how you're going to move the plot forward ( ... )

Thanks! I have it book marked and I'll read it more carefully later...I agree about music. I always have something going while writing. I'm thinking of putting together a "mix tape" sort of like what fairygothmum did for SoG. I have a bunch of stuff picked out, but am finding it impossible to narrow down my Pink Floyd picks. :)

On that note -- what do you folks think Giles' favorite Pink Floyd song would be? (And no picking "Young Lust" because that's just a cheap shot, lol)

Great Gig in the Sky!! (Though that's probably my own bias sneaking through...)

Really? Is that anxiety about reception or just getting to the point of admitting you're done, or what? (If that's not too personal a question?)

Hmm. I can't often write really porny-porn - I always end up with euphemisms and if you get too many in then you've just got a mess of adjectives and some very confused readers. But R-type smut is okay and happens reasonably often!

Plot is always my weakness, and I think that's comparatively rare with fanficcers - I don't have stories I hugely want to tell, I'm just hanging out with characters I enjoy. Hence the need for deadlines and challenges - and hence also the shortness of most of the fic.

Writing this week is feeble, but so is all else as London is not designed to be over 30 deg C and 70% humidity for days on end and we are all wilting and sweaty (stop laughing, US and Aussie persons; we are delicate English roses and we *suffer*). I really *really* want to use the cliche_bingo list of fanfic cliches to inspire me, though I was too late to join the fun - but so far, nothing. Blame the heat, blame the lack of deadlines... Ah well.

Okay. I had to look up what 30 was in Farenheit. And yeah. That's pretty disgusting. No US people laughing at you on this end. Of course, I live in WA, where that is pretty much the absolute upper end of normal...for about two or three weeks in July/August.
