oops...guess my ethnocentrism is showing... :-)
what i had known until today as a "bagpipe," though, seemed to require constant air from the player's mouth...thereby rendering impossible the lyrics to Purple Haze from the player. i assumed this put the gajda into another class of instrument altogether... ;-)

Hmmm... I know of no such bagpipe. I thought the whole point of a bagpipe is to blow into the bag, then squeeze the bag continuously while the player takes a break... you can even look it up:
