It's been a cold and miserable summer till the last couple of days, which were impossibly hot and bright. It was supposed to break yesterday with pouring rain, but it stayed hot till night. This morning was grey and for the last four hours the thunder has been rolling intermittently; but it's been dry. Perhaps it's because I've just read Zachary ( Read more... )

By the way, I'm not back in Maldives, obviously. It all fell through. Finding myself at an unexpected loose end and having been conscious all year of not knowing what I was doing when teaching English, I did a CELTA course last month. (You may have heard stories to the effect that you lose a month of your life doing this insanely intensive course: they are all understated.) I'm starting work for the summer at the Bell language school in Cambridge next week, and as usual before any new job, I'm paralysed with terror.

I think we just got Spring and Summer in the wrong order this year. March and April were extraordinarily hot and dry. Or was it April and May?
