John watched Bobby be driven to his knees, red and orange flames battering him. This was power. This was righteousness. This was what being a villain was about, showing those who had held you back that they were wrong. Taking revenge on those who deserved it.
Bobby's face was visible for a minute through the flames and John faltered slightly, seeing the boy who had been his first friend. But villains didn't have friends, only enemies and cohorts. Then the flames died and his hands were freezing. Then he saw Bobby in his true form. Then the world went dark.
