The coffee was steaming as Augustus Rookwood stirred the sugar in, pointing the dripping spoon at the woman across the table from him. "Diamond, darling, that husband of yours is going to get you into trouble on of these days. His refusal to answer Tom's questions... it is most unwise of him when he has a wife to think of, and children in the future."

Druella Black could only shrug her shoulders in reply, but her older brother was not near as silent. "I agree." Nikolai frowned down at his empty cup and held it out for the house elf to refill. "He make decisions that will put you in dangerous place, my sister or not."

The look on Rashnu Lestrange's face could only be described as a smirk when he looked pointedly away from Druella. "It seems that Cygnet is not as much of a man as you thought he was when you agreed to marry him."

"Don't call him that," Druella snapped, face coloring.

"Play nicely children, else I'll make sure that you're the ones going to the Americas."

"Dreadful thought," Abraxas Malfoy drawled. "Having to deal with all of those Yankees... even the witches are not polite company."

"You can't make me go anywhere," Druella pointed out, her tone a little sullen. Augustus's eyebrow arched and Druella looked away. "It would be a dreadful mission to get, trying to convince them of anything. They have thicker skulls than Nikolai."

"No, my is thicker," Nikolai argued, eliciting laughter from the others. He grinned sheepishly and stuck a hand behind his head, shrugging. "Even I do not want go there."

Augustus leaned back in his chair. "Nott can probably go, and Andreas. Andreas always was good with talking people into doing things, and Nott can frighten most that would argue."

"Why not Leanne Avery?" Rashnu asked, peeling the skin off of an apple. "She's spent a good bit of her life over there and even talks like them sometimes. It'd be sheer idiocy to send anyone but her, Rook."

Abraxas nodded. "Leanne in place of Andreas, who would be a good choice if it was anything else. He does have a silver tongue. But she has the knowledge and connections that he would lack."

Augustus opened his mouth to reply, but stopped when he noticed that a widely grinning Nikolai was waving at someone standing behind him. Turning, Augustus saw the familiar face of his house mate, Esmeralda Selwynn. His eyebrow arched again when he noticed that she was wearing a robe that was far too short for her. "Strawberry... did you forget your clothes somewhere?" He could hear Rashnu murmuring appreciatively to a chuckling Nikolai.

Esmeralda crossed her arms across her chest. "I did not, I forgot that this morning was important," she replied. "Forgive my appearance, everyone, there is a reason for it."

"No offense taken at all, Esmeralda," Rashnu said, the smirk back on his face. "I always wondered what I missed out on from the Hufflepuffs..."

"Stop staring at her," Druella hissed, grip dangerously tight on her cup.

Rashnu waved her off. "I can stare at whoever I want."

The look Esmeralda directed at Rashnu was icy. "As I was saying... Augustus, you left something in my bathroom this morning. I'd be most pleased if you would get rid of it so I can actually take my bath and put clean clothes on."

"Nothing wrong with what you is wearing now," Nikolai interjected, earning himself a slap on the back of the head from his sister. "What? Is true!"

"Ah yes, I forgot about that," Augustus admitted, setting his cup down. "My apologies, Strawberry, I'll take care of that now."

"What did you leave in the bathroom, Rook?" Abraxas asked, his voice a trifle bored.

"The date he brought home last night," Esmeralda told them. "This one made the mistake of agreeing to a bath. We had agreed that you would keep them out of my bathroom, too."

Augustus stood. "We also agreed that you would stop locking Selene in my room when yours comes over for a visit. She clawed up the last one's leg when we came in last night."

"I think yours matters less than mine." Esmeralda began to tap her foot impatiently. "After all, mine is not now dead on the bathroom floor."

"No," Augustus agreed as he started for the stairs. "Yours is probably still asleep in your bed... did you leave your door open? Because I let Selene-" The scream that came from the first floor answered his question. "I take that as a no."

Esmeralda glared at him as she whirled and stalked towards the stairs. "Take care of the body before you finish your meeting." Augustus followed after her, casting a smile back at the room as he left.

Druella brought her cup to her lips. "I don't know about the rest of you, but I like coming here just for that."

Nikolai blinked at her. "You like seeing Esmi in only towel, too?"

Druella's amused smile changed to a glare. "Shut up, Nikolai."

"They are quite entertaining," Rashnu agreed. "Especially this morning."

"You just liked seeing Esmeralda half-naked," Abraxas pointed out.

Rashnu's grin nearly split his face. "You can't say that you didn't. Married or no, one can still appreciate the beauty of a woman."

"I've yet to meet a man who doesn't admire her... well, accept Rook, but he's different like that. Leaves more for the rest of us to stare at."

"Don't admire too closely," Medea Yaxley warned as she finally arrived, favoring her right leg and sporting a fresh bandage on her arm. "She's never once responded favorably to anyone."

"You're late," Abraxas told her. "And what happened to you? I thought you were supposed to be a spy."

Medea pulled a face and winced, touching her bandage lightly. "I'd rather not talk about it."

"Getting slow?" Nikolai taunted. "You missed good exchange, that what sleeping in get you."

"Don't make me curse you."

"No cursing at breakfast," Augustus reminded them as he returned, holding a very angry Selene firmly in his arms. When the cat saw Medea she started to hiss all over again and Augustus winced. "This cat is a monster."

Rashnu looked at the others. "No one else is going to say it? Fine, I will." He looked at Augustus and the cat. "That's because she's a Selwynn."
