A ring of flowers dangled down in front of Susan's face, blue and yellow mixing together as though it were natural. "Made something for you," Lysander declared as he grinned down at Susan. "First flowers of spring are out!"
So he hasn't heard yet. Susan was not sure whether that was a good or bad thing, but it did mean that she would need to be the one to tell him. She always hated telling people bad news, especially when they seemed to be in a good mood. "Thank you, Lysander," she said first, accepting the crown. Later she would add it to her the collection she had begun in first year. "I'm glad to see that you're in a good mood today." It was partially true.
"I'm always in a good mood," the blonde Ravenclaw told her. "Especially on days when I get to see you."
"That's almost every day."
"So they're all good." Lysander's smile was infectious.
Just as Susan was about to tell him what had happened that morning, Lysander's mirror image came skidding into the library. Upon seeing the two of them together he hurried over, face a pale shade of red as he looked between them. "Lysander, I didn't know what she was going to do! I swear I didn't, I thought she saw a nargle in my hair!"
"You could have said something!" Susan objected, cheeks coloring. "How hard would it have been to just open your mouth-"
"You did that for me!" Lorcan glanced at Lysander again, whose facial expression had yet to change. "Really, Lysander, I had no idea. I swear on father's book."
Susan's face flamed. "I thought that you were him!"
"It's really not that hard to tell us apart! Mother has no problem!"
"Actually, Lorcan," Lysander interjected, speaking for the first time since his twin had come in. "She has mixed us up on occasion, if we were wearing the same thing at the time." His smile faded a little as he looked at Susan. "Why are the two of you so upset? There have been no nargles in the castle."
It was moments of innocence like that that melted Susan's heart, but at that moment she was too busy trying not to run away and just let Lorcan explain. "I... thought your brother was you."
"She kissed me!"
"I'm getting there, Lorcan! He was sitting in Potions where you normally sit and so I... thought..." It had seemed like the perfect idea at the time, until Lysander had turned out to be Lorcan.
"She kissed me!" Lorcan paused and tapped a finger against his lips. "She's a good kisser." He glanced at Susan. "You're a good kisser."
Susan flushed anew. "You weren't bad," she mumbled, feeling as though she owed him at least that admission.
Lysander stood then and took Susan's hand, tugging gently but insistently. "I'll see you later, Lorcan."
Lorcan tilted his head to one side as Susan stood up. "Where are you going?"
"To prove that I'm a better kisser than you."
A grin started on Susan's face. "I think that sounds brilliant."
