Eight months down and one to go was the mantra that Rodolphus had begun silently chanting to himself every time Bellatrix did something strange or out of character, even for her. From the violent tempers (he had a new scar on his right arm that had prompted him to steal Bellatrix's wand from her one night) to the times when she was strangely affectionate (not that he objected), nothing gave him such a headache as the cravings that came upon her at the strangest times. He could remember someone saying that cravings were all in the woman's head, after which he had proudly declared that Bellatrix would not possibly have any since it was impossible not to know of his devotion.
He could not have been more wrong.
Bellatrix looked up at him from the bathtub with a challenging smile on her face when he arrived home from work. "I talked with Cissy today," she began.
Rodolphus, expecting to be asked for something, had not even removed his cloak. "What do you want now?" he asked.
"That's not a very nice way to start a conversation." Bellatrix's smile changed, her face growing sulky. "I was going to invite you into the bath with me, but if you're going to act like that..." Rodolphus had his trousers off and his shirt unbuttoned when the smile returned and she added, "You can join me after you get me a pot of Tieguanyin."
"That's not even a real word," Rodolphus challenged, though he was buttoning his shirt back up.
"Yes it is. It's a Chinese tea that my father quite enjoyed. Cissy reminded me of it today and I have a sudden craving for it."
"I'm sure there will be some in Diagon Alley... Tieguanyin, you said?"
Bellatrix's smile widened. "Yes, but you won't find any in Diagon Alley. Father always had it delivered specially and only a few times a year."
Eight months down and one to go. "It's expensive, isn't it?"
"Rare, too." Her eyes were sparkling now with something that Rodolphus was almost positive was pure malice. "Not just available at every tea store in China."
"I'll send one of the servants." That suggestion had never worked before, but maybe this once... he had been working all day.
"You send one of the servants and you will not be sleeping in the same bedroom as me again until you're thirty."
"What did I ever do to you to deserve this?"
Bellatrix raised a dripping hand and motioned down towards her stomach. "I have two creatures growing inside me and you're the one who put them there," was her response. "They may very well turn out to be worth all of this, but until such a time as they are no longer inside of my body I intend on making you suffer every bit as much as me." She let her hand fall back under the bubbles. "Now give me a kiss and go get my tea."
Rabastan glanced up from his seat by the fire as his brother was shown in, face smooth. "What did she want this time?" he asked.
"Some Chinese tea that I'd never heard of before. Luckily she was in the bath so I could get one of the servants to do it for me in..." His voice trailed off when Bellatrix climbed to her feet from the chair beside Rabastan, who only shrugged. "Traitor."
"I had to go through it too, so don't expect me to be sympathetic. Now go get your wife her tea."
