Since this week's deadline for BF falls on my father's birthday, I thought I'd make my entry about fathers....

I was nine years old when I learned about cars. It was a dark night, lit only occassionally by streaks across the sky. My father was at home watching us, while my mother went to dinner with her friends.

Is this a true story? It feels so genuine and like a real memory. The father's enthusiasm for his car and the attentiveness of the kids, even if they couldn't understand everything, was truly sweet.

It is not a true story, though it does have elements of truth to it. My father is into cars and did teach me some about them as a child. I also have a younger sister. So, I guess you could say I loosely based it on us.
