Title: The Rest of My Life
Pairing: Kibum/Kevin
Rating: G
Summary: Kevin wants to tell him no, wants to scream and hit him and tell him to never come back again. But alternatively, a deeper part of him wants to cling to Kibum's body and never let him go.
A/N: This is odd. I don't know, I told myself I wouldn't write about the recent happenings. But I have a great friend (
meow_bunny) who I love dearly, and she loves Kemaru. So here we are. Title and story slightly inspired by Elliot Yamin's "
Wait For You". I didn't check this over or send it to anyone, so please correct any mistakes you see.
Kibum thinks someone could rip his heart out, and it wouldn't hurt as much as watching Kevin cry from across the room. He had tried to go towards the boy and comfort him, but Kevin flinched violently and moved away. So Kibum watches him from the doorway of Kevin's bedroom, hands clenched tightly at his sides. Kevin sobs, muttering under his breath, while sitting on the edge of his bed.
"Kevin?" Kibum calls lightly. "Can I please just… come in?"
Kevin wants to tell him no, wants to scream and hit him and tell him to never come back again. But alternatively, a deeper part of him wants to cling to Kibum's body and never let him go. He ignores Kibum's question and instead asks, "Why?"
Kibum sighs, runs his hand through his hair and walks over to Kevin. He sits down next to the still crying boy and says softly, "You know why."
"This is the second time, Kibum!" Kevin chokes out angrily, his tears still falling down his cheeks. "Why do you keep doing this to me?"
"You know it's not my fault," Kibum explains patiently, gingerly putting his arm around Kevin's shaking form.
Kevin jumps away from his touch, standing in front of Kibum yet avoiding his gaze. "How am I supposed to do this?" Kevin begins, voice shaky. "How am I supposed to live without you?"
"You can do it," Kibum says. You've done it before, he thinks, but doesn't voice it.
"But I don't want to!" Kevin replies stubbornly, slightly stomping his foot. He wraps his arms around himself and continues to stare at his feet. Kibum stands up from his spot on the bed and moves towards Kevin. He runs his fingers through the younger boy's hair and pulls him into an embrace.
"I know," he simply says. Kevin starts crying hard again, clinging to Kibum tightly.
Kibum runs his hands up and down Kevin's back, and when his sobs have lessened enough for him to speak, he whispers, "I'll miss you."
"I know," Kibum repeats. "I'll miss you too." He's silent for a moment, hesitating on his words and Kevin looks up at him curiously. "Promise me something."
"Anything," Kevin replies.
"Promise you'll wait for me," Kibum takes a shaky breath, desperately clinging to the last shreds of composure he had left. "Promise you won't let anyone take you away from me. Even when we're miles apart. Do you promise?"
Kibum blushes slightly at the insecurity he displayed and Kevin almost wants to laugh. "Are you crazy? Of course I promise."
Kevin pecks Kibum softly on the nose, then each of his cheeks and finally his lips. The couple share a light kiss for a few moments before pulling away and linking their fingers. Kibum glances down at their entwined hands before getting an idea, pulling himself out of the embrace quickly.
"What are yo-"
"Close your eyes," Kibum demands. "Quick, close them!"
Kevin complies easily, his eyes sliding shut. Kibum pulls off the ring he was wearing on his left hand and inspects it for a moment. Deeming it acceptable, he takes Kevin's own left hand and slips the ring on his ring finger. The ring is too big however, and he tries it on two other fingers before sighing angrily and simply placing it in Kevin's palm.
Kevin's eyes snap open and look down at the ring in his hand. He opens his mouth to say something, but no words come out.
"Aish, just put it on a necklace or something. Your fingers are too skinny," Kibum complains, joking around to make up for the embarrassment he felt.
"Kibum," Kevin breathes. "What are you… But…"
"So you don't forget," Kibum mumbles. "It's nothing much, sorry. But it's better than noth-"
Kevin pulls Kibum into a tight hug, effectively cutting off what he was about to say. Tears fill his eyes, happy ones this time, and he says-in English, due to his excitement and bewilderment-"Thank you, it's perfect!"
Kibum smiles gently down at the boy, the excitement dying down to a sort of calm, relaxed atmosphere. "You'll be okay," he says. "We'll be okay."
Kevin doesn't say anything, but Kibum swears he clings to him a little tighter.
