He doesn't really know why he killed her. If you asked, he'd deny it every happened, and then when confronted with evidence claim she'd been bewitched by the painting and was going to kill him for his skull. But that's really a guess on his part; he didn't stop to think about it during the process and he doesn't really see it as killing, because she was something of a possession to him. One of the creepier characters I've created, I must admit.

The only thing I have to suggest is the way you do dialogue - sometimes it's confusing to find out who's talking, because you put an action of another beside their speech. As in:
"Speech of speaker 1," Speaker 2 does something. "Speaker 1 says something again."
