Ooh, this is so shiny and squishy all at once, and I don't even like Mal/River! But this? Worked so well. I loved how you put so much detail into how Mal sees River - the "dream-sand" and the crease on her cheek from his suspenders.

I do love your Zoe quite a bit, and her bemusement at Mal. And you've definitely managed to capture her relationship with both Mal and Wash in River's voice. The "looks like you've slept" line had me smiling. Also, Mal's dubbing Zoe's cooking as "facon" wins the thread.
