This is pretty much a re-post of a comment I posted in someone else's journal: I have to admit that it makes me feel a little bit better when someone who has left New Orleans writes about missing it. I understand why a lot of people need to leave here, esp. if they are not from here. However, I don't understand why some of these same people need to ( Read more... )

hells bells, honestly, if not for the storm, i may not have come back home from nyc so soon. it made me think of what was really important in my life...which is home and my family that is here. (or in the general vicinity). i only regret that we couldn't afford to actually come back to orleans proper.

i'm sorry we missed out on the midsummers night dream, i really wanted to come to that as well, we had to get up at the crack of dawn to do gutters on the house. blech.

It's because they're not at all sure they've made the right decision in leaving, so they're trying to convince themselves. It's basically a less self-aware version of saying you miss it. That doesn't make it any less annoying, but as far as I can see people do that with just about any kind of decision that can be made in life if they feel strongly and conflicted enough about it. Actually sometimes I think I speak too harshly of Massachusetts when it comes up in conversation. And then I wonder if I'm even qualified to do so, since I haven't lived there in three years and have (I think) done a lot of growing up in that time. Who knows what my experience would be there now? Maybe Massachusetts has changed as much as I have...or as little. Anyway, I could go on and on but I'll spare you. I had a great time at Midsummer Night's Dream too! I was so glad I went. Thank you guys for putting on such great events.
