So, picked up Skyward Sword yesterday. Am about an hour in, at the race.

The flight controls are very seriously impeding my enjoyment of this game. :| I am not looking forward to doing this for the rest of it.

Edit: I ALSO SORT OF MISS BEING ABLE TO SKIP THROUGH DIALOGUE AND CUT SCENES ALA TWILIGHT PRINCESS.

EDIT THE SECOND: Groose. <3 ( Read more... )

The controllers are the reason I didn't buy this game. I can't imagine the flight being easy at all. But a lot of people seem to enjoy the challenge. It would just frustrate me.

Well, for the most part, I actually think the controls are pretty damn good. I really rather like the sword motions - they're actually fairly intuitive once you get used to them (though I do miss the jump slash).

Reading up online seems to suggest I'm actually making my movement too exaggerated, and it's supposed to emulate a bird's flapping...that might explain what's going wrong. It's not very well explained in game, though. :|

I hate the flying controls too... the race took me forever to get through. :(

Also shield degradation can fuck right off.

IF THERE IS A WAY TO KILL THIS BIRD, I WILL USE EVERY MOMENT UNTIL MY DEATH TO DISCOVER IT. I have a rule that the moment a game starts to stop being fun to me, I shut it off, so I don't get annoyed. SO THE GAME IS SHUT OFF RIGHT NOW. I hunted down a video that showcased somebody using the controls, so I'm going to try copy his motions. Problem is I don't really know what I'm doing different. The turning and dashing isn't what I"m having trouble with - maintaining altitude is what's driving me batty.

I can't decide if I think the shield degradation is going to be an interesting challenge or just a subject of FUCK MY LIFE every time it happens. Probably the latter. THEY TOOK AWAY THE JUMP SLASH, PAUL, I AM VERY UPSET ABOUT THIS. And while the sword controls are quite good, I know I'm going to screw up that spin attack constantly because of the nunchuck. DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE FINISHING BLOW.

Oh, Link, you are so fucked in this game. :(

You can still jump slash in Skyward Sword. I think you can do it by sprinting and then just swinging the wiimote.

I feel like a salesman for this game.

I got the game for christmas but haven't even tried it out yet. I'm left-handed, and if they changed Link from a lefty into a righty so it'd be easier on players, you know it's going to be wonky.

I do kind of wish they'd put a left-handed option in for people - I will say my cousin, who is left-handed, didn't find it too hard to adjust to TP, and I haven't heard much noise about the difficulty of SS, either. So, hopefully it'll be fine? Really, the biggest thing you have to adjust to is the sensitivity of the controller. It's just hard to avoid overdoing it when you're used to the less sensitive controls of TP. (I'm not exaggerating about the sword controls being really good - I find them a massive improvement over TP.)

I flailed around and wanted to quit until the end of the first dungeon, but now I can finally do it! I almost died to some Deku Babas. Don't lose hope! The game is worth it.

Also, I realized I never answered your question on your last post! My life is doing pretty well. I recently got into a PhD program for computer science in Amherst, Massachusetts so it looks like I'll be moving across the country when I graduate. Kind of scary, but awesome. I think the Amherst/Northampton area suits my personality more than Santa Barbara, but we'll see! How's yours?

Congratulations on the PhD program! I live in the Northeast, myself, so I can assure you that it is in fact pretty awesome and you will do awesome here. (You will need some wellies, though. INVEST.)

I'm pretty good. Still trundling along trying to figure out what to do with my life, while currently wasting my youth away on video games. I'm finishing up my last two credits of pre-pharmacy (organic chemistry is a bitch ;-;), so if I'll do decide to go ahead with that major, I'll be set for a 2013 application. However, I'm seriously considering taking a year to move to a different city to get a little more living in before I decide to dedicate myself to four years of a debt. :) It may mean I have to retake a few early credits (english, maths, etc.), but I think it'll be worth it.
