I don't see a problem with it if the author sincerely has no plans on finishing, provided he or she gives permission.

As for the m-preg question....no shame, not if the rest of it is really so well-done.

I really don't see the harm in asking. I have one AU that I've spent years practically begging people to take off my hands, because several people want me to write a sequel and, yeah, I'd love to read that sequel too, but my canon worldbuildiness isn't up to being the person who writes it. I'd hope that most people would find it flattering when something they'd come up with became part of someone else's work.
