I hate my subconscious

For years now, I have had a recurring nightmare.  It doesn't come often, maybe twice or three times a year.  But it hit me last night, and when my alarm clock woke me up, I was relieved to hear it, along with the usual rush of emotions that comes with this recurring nightmare of anxiety ( Read more... )

As easy as it would be for me to give you a hard time about this, I can't bring myself to do it. Having never waited tables, I can't really identify with your anxiety... I do think that these dreams are more common than a lot of people would let on though.

My annual recurring nightmares tend to revolve around high school. I can never remember my locker combination or my class schedule. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do and am always left alone in the hallway when the bell rings knowing I'm going to be in trouble for missing a big test or something. Oh yeah... and there's a 50/50 chance I'm naked. Good times.

I've had dreams like that too. A few years ago, my mom was pressuring me to go to grad school, and I had recurring dreams that she re-enrolled me in high school without my permission. Mostly, it was finals week and I realized that there was a class that I hadn't attended all semester. Usually, I also didn't remember where the class was.

Never had a naked-in-school dream, though with my high school, all I need to do is dream that I'm wearing jeans, and it's the same thing (super-religious school; long skirts and long sleeves and high necklines were required).

My anxiety dreams are fairly specific these days; either my boss is mad, or my ex is back somehow. I haven't dreamstressed about school in years. I'll say it: probably because it has been so many since I've been.
