No surprise there as far as I'm concerned, given the standard summer blockbuster hype combined with the mix of morbidity and sentimentality surrounding Heath Ledger's final performance. The first modern series of Batman movies were dark but not as dark as the current series. With Jim Carrey's portrayal of the Riddler, it would of been dissident with the general feeling of the movie for Jones to play Two-Face super darkly.
I'll be wool-gathering on the future sequels in my own review later today.
