Textbook Inquiry

For those of you out there who attend UGA and get financial aid. Is there anyway to get textbooks and have them charge your student account so the financial aid will pay for it? Or do you have to wait for the financial aid to be disbursed? I've been looking online and can't find anything.

I don't know about UGA specifically, but it's been my experience that you have to wait for disbursement.

When we were in Portland, Oregon, the community college there let people with financial aid charge their books to their student accounts and then the student account is paid before the loans are disbursed. So I was thinking maybe UGA did something like that.

Yup. You have to wait (which for me is often a month or two after classes start).

I'm not sure about UGA, but UCF has a minor loan that you can take out, it's $300 or $600, for books and supplies that can be repaid when finaid gets in.

Call UGA and talk to their Financial Aid office, they'll know more than the website and it will be easier. Promise.

You may thank the federal government for that one, most states have laws against dispersing any funds until very shortly before or after the semester begins. Most likely because people spent it all before the semester even began.

Wow.. that is absolutely brilliant. I have never been anywhere in my college career that financial aid was *that* organized. Most of the places I've been have done such awesome things as: lose my loans, fail to apply my payment to tuition and get all of my classes suspended, and neglect to indicate that I was graduated so I keep getting notices from the office threatening to discontinue my funding.

Oh, how awkward.

I hope they can do something for you. I know how much of a punch to the balls texts before funding can be. If you can't get anything, buy online to save yourself a bundle.

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up getting my textbooks for like $20 (Savings of near $100). Though my husband's didn't have that much of a price difference.
