The Red Wings season was cut short by the officials, not the Oilers.

Did everyone else see that "goal" in the 3rd period of game 6? The puck was clearly kicked into the net after Manny had his glove around it. The officials, after review, blew the call. The Wings were ahead 3-2 at that point (the "goal" made it 3-3). The next goal by the Oilers would have made it 3-3 but instead it won the game for them 4-3, thanks ( Read more... )

It was hard to tell if it was a clear kick, but it was obviously high sticked before that.

It's weird, three of the four series in the Western Conference have been upsets, and the fourth is still up in the air. I can't help but wonder if the new rules are having some effect on the way the playoffs are shaking out, it almost seems to odd to be coincidental.

This wouldn't explain why upsets are happening more this year than in past years, but I heard an interesting comment on "Pardon the Interruption" today. Whats his name said that after covering hockey for a long time in the past he got the impression that hockey players don't care as much about home ice, or what seed they get, or any of that crap. They just want to make the playoffs. I can't think that they don't care at all, but what if there's truth to that? What if hockey players really don't care too much about what seed they are, and thats true around the league. That would mean that at the end of the year, we wouldn't really know what team was the best based on their record. Teams would care more about resting certian players and other concerns than winning the most games. So the seeds may not mean as much, leading to some "suprises" in the playoffs. Teams may be better than their record and vice versa. Of course that could all just be a lot of shit too, who knows. Makes the playoffs more exciting (upsets) though, thats for sure ( ... )
