After the first 1984 presidential debate the Regan campaign had to regroup due to a poor showing from the president. When diagnosing the problem it was determined they had tried to stuff too much information into his head; they had foolishly tried to create a policy wonk out of the Gipper. Instead, it was suggested by Michael Deaver a better strategy would be to just let Regan be Regan. And it worked!
I'm one that tries to learn history's lessons, and therefore have always strove (dialect past participle of 'strive') to let William be William. And I always will!
