I hate to say this, but that first photo looks staged- the quality is too sharp for a print of that period and the women look as though they are deliberately making faces. The other adverts look genuine enough.

I find the history of temperance fascinating.

silver nitrate is the same size regardless of what it was put on.
the only possible difference is if they were using orthochromatic film.
