extraction: keeping strands of hair while getting rid of the background

Hello and welcome back!

I found some time for another little tutorial.
In this one, we’ll learn how to get rid of a background without losing stray strands of hair. You might find this useful if you’re making icons or graphics with curly-haired people, or when people have wind-blown hair.

Note #1: This tutorial is for Photoshop CS. I don’t know if

I hope you find it useful and practical.
It can be really annoying to try and rease background using the wand-tool - especially if you've got a lot of detail you'd like to keep.
I think this is a good way to elude the wand-tool. ;)

Just in case you have German Photoshop as well and might find some of the translations tricky, you can go here. I find this site very useful. I don’t think I’d be able to write a single tutorial properly without it. ^.^

I have not yet made many icons. I’m still quite a newbie to that, and thus don’t yet have many listed here or at my journal.
I’ve been thinking about it, though.
But right now, time is always short. Maybe in my next vacations or something. ;)
