*lol* I saw that too, and wondered the same thing?! Though what you raise are two different things - the tuts all about 'selective colouring' which don't really teach anything considering every image has different colouring and tone therefore you are never going to get that person's results.. and secondly.. broad is not even a word which can describe that question :P
Yes. It’s two different things I’m ranting about. Definitely. But it’s two things that annoy me endlessly. =P I can’t stand those selective coloring tutorials because - as you pointed out - they cannot be applied to each and every image. (I think it’s time I took a look at that s-c-business. Maybe I can come up with a tutorial that’s actually useful and applicable to all images.)
The other thing that annoys/shocks me is that people are apparently shouting for such tuts. (Those how-to-get-this-icon guides). For what, though? If one is going to make an icon by doing exactly what the tutorial-poster says, using exactly the same image, one is going to end up with the same old same icon. Why don’t they just download the icon in the first place? If I followed a tutorial like that, I would never say “I made this icon.” I wouldn’t dare do that - especially not if dozens of other LJ user would claim the same.
*tears out hair* I’m so vexed right now, hehe. Sorry about the windiness of the reply. =P
*hee* Are you kidding? Its GOOD that you're passionate, and want to share how you do your icons! And in a well laid out manner that will actually benefit the icon-maker for future use, and future techniques, rather than the exact same colouring/style for ALL icons.. even though really, that's just impossible because no image, no cap is ever lit in the same manner.
(Plus I've moved house in the last couple of days, I'm worn out, and could use something to entertain me)
I think what it boils down to, is some people don't want to learn the features of PS or whatnot. They want to know how to get that colouring in EXACT steps, rather than use their creativity, and know more about the application than entering in numbers when they don't know what CYMK means (and I actually only just learnt!)
However, I am one that needs detailed, step by step instructions because once I get them, I print them out.. then practice, practice practice! And I hate to think that I'm doing everything the *long* way.. lol.
again... windy. =PsudynApril 22 2007, 14:04:02 UTC
hahaha. Yeah. I’m in a rant-mood today. It shouldn’t even really bother me that some people seem to be so lazy when it comes to making icons, but right now it does. They see a nice icon and want to know how it’s done. They get what they want, follow the steps, and have their pretty icon. Great for them, some one would say. But would they be able to make their own unique icon/graphic from what they have learned? Likely not. And those folks end up spamming up peoples’ f-lists, by asking questions and posting about ps-problems that would be insanely easy to solve… had they actually learned something in the billion tus they’ve participated in
( ... )
I saw the "pride and prejudice" question, and yes I'm still learning my own on ps, but that struck me as a flat out open idiotic request. just so. ;) It drives me nuts when people ask something like that. I really don't grasp what they're trying to achieve with such tutorials.
The tutorials I would request would be things like "how do I use this or that tool?" or "what are filters and how do I use them?" or "when does this an that filter/tool come in handy?" "how can I do this or that, while making sure xyz isn't ruined?" There's so much photoshop can do, but nobody seems to be teaching. )=
