Insult to Manatees

Elizabeth and I just watched the first season of The O.C. this past week, after Ira Glass praised it hardcore on a This American Life podcast we listened on a bad night in Belize, trying to distract ourselves from our full-body-oh-so-close to the equator sunburns.

And I liked it. Except for Oliver. And Marissa is basically a bucket of stool that

First season isn't so bad, and neither is the second. Third is when everything goes to shit, but don't worry, it pays off for Marissa haters. She is so two-dimensional it hurts. And yeah, Oliver sucks as well.

We've got the second season on DVD too.. we rented the first and second disc - which was scratched, and we just bought them.

I think this is my first honest to goodness guilty pleasure. I shouldn't like this show, but it's fun to watch it and be outraged about nothing with my girl.

I love season 1 of the O.C. Sure, some of the plot lines are horribly soap opera-y...but it makes up for it in threefold with Seth's one liners and hilarious dialogue.

Even when it's kind of horrible in that soap opera way, it's fun to watch and make fun of or make fun of how shitty the character is being. But it's mostly sweet and really fun. Around the whole Oliver thing that first season kind of loses it's sense of urgency and real importance, in a way. Ryan starts throwing himself into trouble instead of having to deal with shitty things that happen to him, so it is a little harder to not see it as over the top.

It's fun, but I'm so embarrassed to watch it. AND YET I LOVE IT

We've got the first 2 seasons, and I'm weary of the later because of how this one already kind of turned out.

I felt the same way, highly embarrassed to watch it. And even more so that I own it on DVD >.> BUT IT'S SO GRATIFYING SOMETIMES!

And yeah, I was seriously less impressed by the second season. It felt like they tried to replay a lot of the jokes already used by the first season which was disappointing. But I will never forget the Spiderman episode, in all of it's delightful cheeze glory. But I pretty much gave up after season 2. I see an occasional episode of season 3 on Soap Opera network, but they're always like "OH NOES, MARISSA IS DEAD, RYAN IS SAD AND REBELLIOUS AGAIN, JULIA COOPER IS SINGLE AND DEPRESSED" Yeah. I should really use this space in my brain for law school stuff and not O.C.

yeah season 1 is the only good one. after that i hated it. and whatever happened to the lead blonde dude from the show? you never hear from him now.
