House hunting was very fun for us! We found a great house for slightly under our budget, everything we wanted and more. And in the first week of looking no less
( ... )
That's a bit more interesting of a story then i think i'm really up for in house hunting. Granted you ended up with a house you like and good amount of land. I'm sure the time frame when that was questionable was not the most enjoyable. Thank you for telling your story it is interesting what he would have to do if he desided not to sell you his land.
I loved our house hunting... and not in quite the same way as the previous poster ;)
We really enjoyed looking at all the possibilities available and discussing the pros and cons of each one. The only thing we didn't really enjoy was our Realtor. He did a very good job in general, but he was older and more formal then we would have liked, and he was out of town on vacation the week we wanted to make an offer on our house. He left for another vacation directy after we signed the papers for the house, and was unable to help us with some problems we had (the previous owners left half their stuff at the house, including a junk car).
But... aside from the Realtor, househunting was fun!
Oh, that doesn't surprise me now. Our house had it in the basement... and on every other floor in the house. The lady that owned the house had all of her stuff in boxes, and the boxes were piled high in every single room. You couldn't even walk through some of the rooms. We had no idea if some of the rooms even had electrical outlets.
Her daughter and daughter's boyfriend were using the house, and the owner lived elsewhere. The daughter let her cat just go wherever. Neither of them were very good housekeepers. There were dirty dishes and dirty clothes everywhere.
I bought one of those Hoover Floormates, and it's a godsend for cleaning those floors... and they were absolutely filthy. Everything was filthy. The cupboards were disgusting.
The thing is... all that filth made the house so much cheaper to buy!
well hopefully it doesn't take us that long. otherwise we'll be paying out the nose to the appartment people to stay untill we find something. the lease is up at end of may and rent goes up $150 from what it is now at that point.

Luckily our month-to-month rent payment was not that much more expensive than a 6-month or 12-month lease.
