Today is the 1,352nd anniversary of the Battle of Winwæd, considered by historians to mark the demise of the indigenous Anglo-Saxon religion. It was on this day when the last of England's great Pagan kings, Penda of Mercia, died in battle. His defeat is attributed to the desertion of his ally, Cadafael ap Cynfeddw (so much for those "noble" Celts

Tírfæst Penda--I made sure to remember him too. And we should learn from his mistakes, such as not objecting when missionaries converted his sons. But I hope he's in Wælheall. He was a good 'un.
