Oooh. That looks like an interesting book. Thanks for mentioning it. The thing about the Tudors that fascinates me is that they're in a lot of ways the first thoroughly post-medieval rulers in Europe -- and the fact that they have a centralized intelligence service is closely related to a lot of key differences with everything that went before them.
