I have a similar problem with coffee. I live in the North West where there is a coffee shop for every 100 parked cars! My favorite coffee shop and the absolute best is Black Water Cafe in Tacoma WA, two blocks from where I live. I buy coffee from every other shop that I can just to compare coffee with my favorite shop. My favorite shop wins every time; although, I found one almost as good in Bellingham WA, a two hour drive away ( ... )

There's a set point for happiness, which may be (at least a part of) what you're stumbling toward.

If the Buddha was walking around, today, would he have a refined palette? Would he just accept each experience as it is, without judgment? ... Would he surf the internet? ;-)
