In Defense of Food

I've been reading Michael Pollan's "In Defense of Food" for the past two days now (it's under 200 pages, but I'm both an easily-distracted reader, as well as a woefully slow one) and it's amazing - thanks a helluva lot, Eli, for recommending it. xD This was actually exactly the sort of thing I had been looking for (and the huge amount of history in ( Read more... )

It really is! He's got a style that's easy to read, and it's a lot of info without being an overload or difficult to understand. (There's also a bit of homour in there, which was nice. xD) I hope you like them when you get to reading this one/the others - and I hope that maybe they can even help you with your dieting! :)

The book isn't too long, so it shouldn't be too hard to read. :) I need to start reading more info on diets and good eating because my doctor said my blood pressure was terrible. D: Oops! (runs in the family) Hopefully this will motivate me to eat better! ;)

Uh oh. D: From what I've heard, though, cutting down on stress can also help lower blood pressure (I mean...I'm assuming yours is high, not low, right? xD;;), so in addition to dieting, taking up meditation/something similar could have a positive effect. :) Best of luck eating better, though! It can be really hard to change something that's so automatic/habitual, but coming from someone who's lost a fair bit of weight from just doing little things to change how I eat, it can be done! :3

That's too bad; I've been recommending it to people I know IRL, and I worry I'll run into that issue. xD I'm seeing if Kat will read it when I'm done, though....
