The stranger was small, but formidable. The contrast of intense blue eyes against her nearly-white skin and hair was unsettling. So was the expression of sadism on the face of a slender young girl.
Larxene's luckless dorm-mates exchanged looks. None of them wanted to be the first to approach her.
Larxene was distantly aware of the crowd huddled at the entrance to the Slytherin common room. She ignored them and the shiver of dismissive disappointment that ran up her spine. What a shame, she thought, and here I was thinking I had finally found a place to read in privacy.
The common room was the nicest place she had seen so far at Hogwarts. It seemed to be located beneath the lake. There were portals outside through which the murky water could be seen, and the antique lamps were bottle-green to match the miasma. Larxene approved. Très fin de siècle.
"Er ... are you one of the Beauxbatons transfers?"
