After the Deatheaters and Nobodies had cleared the area, many find themselves at the Hospital Wing next to Sora's body. Due to the Crucio, Sora Descaynes has fallen into a coma. Many take this very hard, especially Riku, who told Sora how he felt just before the attack. Many are injured at first, including Cho Chang and Seamus Finnigan. When Seamus awakes, he wanders around until he finds Rufus (who used an unforgiveable curse when being attacked), who tells him: "You don't know me." Cho comes out unharmed and sometime later goes flying with Cedric.
There is a flashback showing how Sora and Harry became friends in the beginning. As the months pass by and new friendships and alliances are formed in the land of reality, Sora fights a battle of his own inside his mind. He wanders about a very empty Hogwarts and discovers his new weapon can do a little more than hurt people. It can actually unlock locks. After unlocking the door to the headmasters room, he enters a very bright light and hears a rather comforting voice welcoming him.
However, that is the last we see of Sora and the focus goes back onto the students and their lives. After Roxas's disappearance after his brother's acoma, Axel breaks it off and finds an unepected romance with his friend Demyx. Not all signs of Roxas are gone though, as students do see glimpses of him about the school, or hear crying coming from Sora Descaynes room that is presumed to be him.
Zack and Kairi become good friends while playing Halo. They develop a mutual crush on eachother, though Kairi is still dating Seamus. Zack also becomes friends with Zell. Zack tries to comprehend if his feelings for Kairi are stronger than the ones he has on his best friend Sephiroth, but has a hard time comprehending them for his silver haired friend has gone missing since the night of the attack on Hogwarts. Zack finally desides that he and Sephiroth have a trusting relationship (as determined by a conversaion on the night of the attaclk), and chooses to pursue Kairi.
Meanwhile, with the phantom presance of Roxas roaming around, Demyx is haunted by his memory. He compares himself to him all the time and is emotionally broken when Saix taunts and jeers him--telling him he is truly second in Axel's eyes. Demyx, heartbroken, runs to Axel and tells him everything. No matter how painful itmight be. Enraged, Axel confronts Saix and commands him to duel. They do so, and Saix is the victor.
Hours later Professor Tidus Lennox finds Axel in a heap near Wakka's hut. He takes the wounded red head to the hospital wing. Word of Axel's injuries spread like wildfire among the school and Demyx and Zack waste no time rushing to the wing. Demyx's heart is crushed by his lover's appearence, and Zack vows to take revenge on whomever or whatever hurt his friend.
Now, only a few beds away from Sora, lies a second body.
With Axel and Sora in acoma together, their hearts link and they are able to speak. They speak about the outside world, and what on earth is happening to them in the dream world they reside in. They also touch upon the subject of Roxas, and some negative feelings stirr up between them. However, they're reconciled fairly quickly, after Axel explains his side of the story to Sora. With that in mind, they try to find a way out. Sora discovers a keyhole, and believes it to be their exit. He offers Axel his hand, and he opens the door. As they enter, Axel wakes up in the world of the living, but Sora does not.
Meanwhile, Roxas is dealing with the toughest decision he could ever make. The more he watches his brother's unwaking body, the insaner he goes. It does not help that he has driven himself into solitude. Not being able to speak, hug, or enteract with his brother has driven him off the deap edge, and he starts to think about how his brother could be free...If he were dead. With the life support machine only feet away, Roxas prepares himself to do the unthinkable and end his own brother's life. Just as he is about to pull the plug on Sora, Riku makes his way into the hospital wing and stops him. The two teens fight over Sora's life--Rather, just over Sora, and in the end Roxas doesn't end his brother's life. Sora remains alive.
When Axel wakes up, he's greeted by Demyx who has the story of a lifetime to tell him. After Siax beat on Axel mercelessly, Zack, and Xigbar returned the favor to their new 'furby' friend. After Demyx finsihes his little tale, he and Axel solve any negative feelings the two might have over their relationship.
Christmas time strolls along, and with the holiday growing ever nearer, individuals other than Roxas and Riku start to miss their loved ones. Zack pays a visit to a locked garden of Hogwarts, to which he only has the key to. The garden belonged to his sister, and it is where she rests peacefully. Zack talks to his sister, and tries to come to terms with what happened to the two of them, but is unable to do so. As an apology and Christmas gift, Zack leaves his sister a necklace (to replace the one he broke) on her tombstone.
Putting on a mask, Zack goes to deliver other Christmas gifts to his friends. He stops by Axel's hospital room first, and the two of them chat about how Santa killed 'the furby'. As Axel enteracts with his friend, he notices something is off with the normally 'all smiles' Zack. Not being a nosy person, Axel doesn't ask about it. He soon finds that he doesn't have to though, Zack pours his heart out to his best friend as soon as the subject of his sister comes up. With the death of his sister finally revealed, Zack is finally able to forgive himself thanks to Axel. The coversations also makes the duo realize something: The two of them realize they're more than friends, but less than lovers. They're brothers.
As for Sora, when he entered the door unlocked by the keyhole, he finally entered the Headmaster's room. There, he meets Rowena Ravenclaw and Helga Hufflepuff. The absense of Godric Gryffindor is explained by the two of them, and Sora learns that the founders have been keeping them alive the whole time he's been in his slumber. The two founders also explain about Salazar Slythern...Well, as much as they can. Sora is cut off by the founders' message when his body finally is healed...And wakes up.
Waking up comes with consequences, and Sora finds that the cucrio spell that was casted on him truly worked a number. He can't remember anything that happened in the dream world, he can't remember who he is, how to speak, or where he is...Sora can not even remember his friends, family, or Riku.
However, Sora is a fast learner, and he manages to find Harry Potter in the very spot where they first met. Friends, teachers, and friends are oblivious to the fact that Sora Descaynes has woken up. As they exchange gifts on Christmas, hang out, or prepare for the ball, Harry helps Sora heal the best he can...Then they head for the school.
At last, the dance has arrived! Riku arrives with Namine, Zack finds Kairi, Cedric and Cho arrive with class, and Ron and Hermione finally get their dance. Finally, everything in the school appears to be normal once again. In fact, even Riku seems to be healing and acting like his old self once more. The one true miserable person at the ball is Roxas, who is still grieving over his brother. However, his heart does become lighter when he finds Axel and their friendship is repaired. Meanwhile, Seamus Finnigan spikes the punch, and the ball becomes a little more than wild. Everyone starts to become a little more than crazy, and many students believe they have truly gone so when the Great Hall doors swing open, and Sora Descaynes and Harry Potter enter the building.
No doubt that chaos erupts before and after.
